Jack Lord's library contains many author-signed books, as well as a large selection of books pertaining to Hawaiian and Irish culture. Each book contains Jack Lord's book stamp or autograph.

The First Hawaiian Bank is selling Lord's books and other properties on Ebay to benefit Jack Lord's Hawaiian charities.

Jack Lord, born John Joseph Patrick Ryan on December 30, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York. He was of Irish and Spanish ancestry. He grew up in Queens, New York where he would ride horses during the school year and spend summers painting on the cargo ships his father owned. Two of his linoleum prints are housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Lord went to New York University on a football scholarship and earned a degree in fine arts.

Lord was in the Merchant Marines during World War II, where he made maritime training films and caught the acting bug. After the war, he started training at the Neighborhood Playhouse, then the Actors Studio while selling cars to earn money. Lord would star in a few films on Broadway before making the trek to Hollywood.

Jack Lord's most famous role was Detective Steve McGarrett on the the original Hawaii 5-0 which ran on CBS from 1968 to 1980. With an average of over 300 million viewers a week at the height of its popularity, Lord took a few roles after Hawaii 5-0 ended, but mostly lived out his days in his beloved Hawaii. He died January 21, 1998 of congestive heart failure.

Jack Lord was known for his philanthropy, particularly in the case of his beloved Hawaii. After his wife Marie's passing, his estate was divided up 12 Hawaiian charities.
