Born in Oberlin, Ohio, where my father was a student at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, I sponged the sounds of my father’s piano playing and my mother’s singing. Word combinations, rhythms, and their resonant sounds are an important part of my writing.
When I was four, my family moved to DeGraff, Ohio, a town of 900 citizens and fraternal twin to Lake Wobegone. Life was good for a boy growing up in DeGraff, and my memories are even better.
A lifelong educator as a teacher and administrator, I received a Bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University and my Master’s and Ph.D. from Kent State University. As President of the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas, my wife, Sherée, and I live on campus in the President’s Home and are the proud parents of 675 students.
