The Midwife Center Lending Library aims to provide informative, accurate and reliable resources to both providers and all who receive care with us about a range of pregnancy, birth and reproductive health issues.

The Midwife Center opened in 1982 as the “BirthPlace,” the first licensed, free-standing birth center in Pittsburgh. Over several years and a few relocations the current Birth Center stands at 2825 Penn Ave in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as the only accredited free-standing birth center in our region. Over 5000 babies have been born in our practice and we continue to serve more women and families every year.

The mission of The Midwife Center is to provide exceptional woman-centered pregnancy, birth, and well-woman care in southwestern Pennsylvania’s only independent birth center.

Helping women through the life cycle is a passion for us. Our midwives take the time to listen and talk with their clients about things that affect them, their family, work, and personal issues. They take the time to understand each woman's physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.

Our midwives believe that a woman should be in control of her own health care, including her birth experience. Women and their families actively participate during their appointments.

Women are encouraged to ask questions. Our midwives provide as much information as possible to allow women to make informed decisions about their health care
