Bezig met laden... Stick and Stone (origineel 2015; editie 2015)door Beth Ferry (Auteur), Tom Lichtenheld (Illustrator)This book is a great book for demonstrating how friends stick up for one another. Stick helps stone from getting bullied as well as stone helping stick get out from being stuck in water. This shows that helping and caring others build relationships. This book is great for children ages 2-6 years old. Loved the illustrations. Read as a possible addition to a cyberbullying unit in my Pop Culture Studies class. Love the play on words with the "sticks and stones" adage, turning stick and stone into lovable protagonists instead of weapons of words. Would be a good discussion starter for what does it mean to befriend someone who might not be like you, or just how to come to someone else's defense when you see them being picked on. This book is for primary students who are just starting to read. Each page has only a few words. This book is about a stick and a stone. They are alone until they find one another. They become best friends and then there is a store and stick gets blown away. Stone looks all day and all night but cannot find him. He looks a little longer and finally finds stick. They are super happy because they get to be friends again. This book was cute. It was very simple and would be best if used for children when learning to read. This is a book that students can enjoy the pictures while also learning to read very simple words. I would have this on my book shelf for my young students to read. “Stick and Stone” is a children’s picture book that focuses solely on the themes of diversity and friendship. The illustrations are colorful, detailed, and contain a lot of action words to make readers feel like they are with Stick and Stone in all the action. This book also involves bullying and second chances, a crucial topic to introduce to young readers. When Pinecone makes fun of Stone, and Stick stands up to Pinecone. This is when Stick and Stone develop a tight-knit friendship. But when Pinecone gets into trouble, Stick helps rescue Pinecone, and Stone helps rescue Stick from a mud puddle. This story is a beneficial source for talking about kindness, friendship, and bullying in a classroom. “Stick, Stone. A friendship has grown.” With a heartwarming ending, Stick and Stone is filled with clever puns that emphasize the importance of being kind and how to help a friend! The book is written by Beth Ferry and is beautifully illustrated by @tlichtenheld (who also illustrated one of our all time favorites “Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site”). Tip: this book is a great conversation starter on how to be a good friend, bullying/teasing and showing compassion. Hint: for a little backstory on the illustrations, search for: seven impossible things tom lichtenheld stick stone 😊 This book is about a stick and stone becoming friends and being there for each other. Then a situation happens and their friendship is tested. This can teach kids the importance of friendship and how to be helpful and care toward others. It shows how they get through it and it is a picture book. I rate this book 3 out of 5 because it is good at showing friendship. This was a really sweet story about an unlikely friendship with a stick and stone. Their were few words but the illustrations were very cute. I loved the way the stick and stones faces were drawn with just two black holes for eyes an a mouth, but the expressions were descriptive just by looking at their eyes or mouth. A writing prompt for this book that I would ask for this book is "when was a time you helped a friend?" Lonely Stick and solitary Stone become friends in this sing-song picture-book about friendship and loyalty. After Stick stands up for Stone against Pinecone the bully, the two become an inseparable pair. Then a storm sends Stick flying, and it is Stone's turn to come to the rescue... Author Beth Ferry, who made her picture-book debut with Stick and Stone, delivers a simple rhyming text - no more than a few words per page - that works quite well with illustrator Tom Lichtenheld's pencil and watercolor artwork. I liked the interplay here between word and image, as round Stone is described as a zero and narrow Stick as a one, but together they make a (perfect, one presumes) ten. Recommended to anyone looking for children's stories about bullying, friendship, and loyalty for the younger picture-book set. Stick and Stone are both alone without a friend in the world. Then, Stone is bullied and Stick intervenes. From that day forward they have a strong friendship. Well-written with cute illustrations, this book is an easy read with a great message about friendship. My kids and I loved it!
Genre:Fiction This book is about a stick and stone that test the boundaries of friendship and kindness. Stick encounters an instant when he stands up for stone against a bullying pine cone. They have circumstances that tear them apart but in the end, they find their way back to each other. This can be used when there are students that have been bullied or have watched someone being bullied and puts it into perspective. It can be used as an anti-bullying message. Genre: Fantasy Fiction Age Appropriateness: Early Primary (Preschool) Media: pencil, watercolor, and colored pencil on Mi-Teites Paper Review/Critique: This book reveals the journey of Stick and Stone's friendship. Finally after no longer being alone, Stick gets lost and Stone has to go find Stick. Luckily Stick is found and Stone and Stick can continue their friendship. This is good fantasy because the characters are inanimate objects, yet the story is tangible for young children. Children can understand and relate to friendship, and this book just uses a Stick and Stone to discuss the issue. |
