I recently have been trying to work my way through Captain Swing to learn more about the agricultural uprisings in Britain during the first half of the 19th century. I'm doing it for my own enlightenment rather than for a educational obligation and I'm finding this book a bit too academic to enjoy. Is there a more accessible narrative history available? Thanks in advance.

Try One Monday in November: The Story of the Selborne and Headley Workhouse Riots of 1830 for a readable narrative of the specific experience in a pair of Hampshire villages.
