I fell into the Parker novels right at the end. when I came across Dirty Money. at the time I was expecting to find zero on the shelves when I came across this book. didn't know then that it was at the end of a long run, and thought it was OK but thought he skipped around some of the murders. then I came across another that I thought lacked punch, and it was then that I learned the Lee Marvin film was based on his first novel. I thought the Hunter was good, but felt let down with The Man With The Get away Face. the title was the best thing about this book where he seemed to fill endless pages with details of driving. I think there's a feel for the authors work, and I understand this, and that he feels a void. But for me THE HARDBOILD is better served up in "The Friends of Eddie Coyle" By George Higgins or "Tobacco Mist" By Marcus McCarthy or "No Beast so Fierce" By Edward Bunker. these reads are the heavy ones but their authors just haven't gone the distance like Westlake.

A new Parker movie (based on Richard Stark's/Donald Westlake's Flashfire) will be released January 25th, 2013.
