Walker, S. M. (2010). Frozen secrets: Antarctica revealed. Minneapolis: Carolrhoda Books

This book is intended for an older child, perhaps ages 10+. It attempts to give an overview to Antarctica, including the history of Antarctic exploration, the science behind the ice and the current scientific research conducted there. This book received a positive review from School Library Journal, so I was surprised when I read it. I would not recommend this as a book to add to a collection – the content included is an odd mish-mash of things, none of which is well organized. As a reader, I felt that not enough information was included on any one topic, and everything was given only a limited amount of attention. The pictures included in the book are very appropriate, and the format might entice some readers. However, the writing style is too verbose with not enough information.
