The Frog Scientist (2009) by Pamela S. Turner
Part biography of Tyrone Hayes and part explanation of the scientific method, this book is engaging and educational. Hayes is an African American born in South Carolina in the 1960s who ended up studying at Harvard and become a research scientist. The book explains his study of the pesticide, atrazine, and its effect on the development of frogs. The language is accessible to children and provides information in a story format. I loved this book and would recommend it for ages 8-12.
