I just published my debut novel In Between Seasons on amazon.com and bn.com. I am also currently working on getting a paperback edition available for order. This novel is a young adult novel that I hope appeals to both young adults and adults (like myself) alike. I am trying to market the book myself and I think this is okay on this particular thread on this forum??

In Between Seasons
The time between who you were and who you are destined to be...

At eighteen there is one thing Kate Ericson is certain of--the world is at war and has been since she was two years old. That was when her father pulled her family and a group of close friends to this god forsaken place in the middle of know where. For Kate there is no escape from the sea of lies she is drowning in. That is until her world collides with Hunter Marks--the son of her father's biggest opponent. An opponent that Kate didn't even know existed. The thing Hunter kidnaps Kate for, the thing that her family will try to kill her for is something she doesn't have—knowledge of a secret weapon that could win the war that is consuming their world. Now Kate is innocence coming undone at the seams of reality. Hunter is now fighting the hopelessness that is creeping into the edges of Kate’s heart as she learns more about the corruption that has devoured their lives. As Hunter and Kate forge a strong and unique relationship it becomes clear that their love is something that the bureaucracy never expected and that Hunter’s father will do whatever he can to destroy it. Now Hunter believes he must sacrifice love in order to teach Kate that the world’s deadliest weapon is her. Hunter and Kate will have to find the strength to rise above a deception so great even the ones who created it don’t realize its depth.

Hi,
before posting things like this you need to read these posts here and here.

Well, I may be new to the boards, but I have posted on several other topics. I also have more than just my book in my library. I'm sorry if insulted you, but I do have every intention of replying to topics. I read several before posting this one in order to decipher if it was okay and seeing there were many I thought it was.

Stuff happens. This is a common problem. But the links joannasephine showed you will steer you right. Good luck, and welcome. I'll be watching for you.

CGiovanni,
I'm sorry that you feel offended, but given that you only joined the site a few days ago it seemed entirely appropriate to steer you to those two posts. I wasn't accusing you of being a drive-by; I was trying to prevent you from becoming one. There seem to be at least two or three posts identical to yours every week from authors who have no interest in the site whatsoever other than promoting their books, and it's getting to the stage where many longtime members are avoiding HobNob entirely. So unfortunately reading several threads in this group may well have given you an entirely erroneous impression as to what is and isn't considered good conduct -- another reason why some of us try to respond to posts like yours by steering people to those two threads.

I see what your saying...I was just looking at posts on here and thought it was okay. I am a newbie to this whole forum thing--and I guess a bit sensitive. I can understand what your saying...
I wish the rules were more clear though, because when I was looking at this group it said on the explanation that it was the only place on the site where promotion wasn't prohibited--so I thought it was okay (Also having read other similar posts it solidified my impression as being so).

6> yes, perhaps #2 could have mentioned that promotion is permitted here as well as linking to the wider information.

There has been a recent spate of promotion in several other groups, so people have been responding quickly.

(and by the way welcome, Cassandra!)

Thanks Tim--I appreciate the clarification...I was thinking I had read something wrong!
I see how people getting overzealous with the promotion could be an issue.
And thank for the welcome!

I have just had a look at your website - the cover shown there is a very striking photo - where was it taken?

I wondered how it would look on a Kindle - the white text would not be very distinct against grey, but I see your kindle sample In Between Seasons does not have a pictorial cover.

It was taken somewhere in Windham County, CT. I took it...I've dappled in photography for quite some time, and after driving by that house I couldn't get it out of my head! It really haunted me, and one day I decided it needed a story!

I previewed it on the Kindle when I published it and the white words actually were fine. I have black and whites of the house, which you can see as my banner on my site--so I think the conversion worked in my favor. It looks very much like my banner with my name in white words.

Thanks for viewing my site--it's exciting to see people other than my family are taking a peek at it! :D

For Amazon I have never tried, for LibraryThing - click on touchstone (one of these special links In Between Seasons, also summarised at the top-right of this page) then look for a section near the top called "Your book information", this has a Tags section on the right-hand side, with an edit button, which gets you a field where you can enter tags, separated by commas (I added "Sampled, Kindle, Hobnob with Authors", as I have no read beyond the cover of the sample yet :) )

I think updating the main tags-section on the book is not instant, but should be updated within a few days.

I figured out how to do it on both sites--Really excited and hoping this helps with my sales!
Thanks for all your help!

CG, I take no offense - the guidelines do say you can promote here and some of us do. What happened this morning on the train did almost put me over the top, however and is a good example of what a "Drive-By" is. A guy was passing out postcards for his book to everyone who was reading in the car (that would be mostly everyone). When he got to me, I looked at the card, said, thanks, no thanks, not my interest but good luck, and he wanted to know why, and when I told him I still wasn't interested in the topic, and told him what I was interested in, and what I wrote, I was called "one of those "Berkeley stuck-up snob literati."

Even though I am not, I think I finally have arrived. I've been called many things, but never stuck up snob literati. And the lady sitting next to me asked for my card. We later swapped info and are having coffee next week to share titles on our Nooks and discuss "The Hunger Games" series.

I hope Guy with Cards and Attitude makes it with this marketing scheme.

All the best,

E

Hi Ellen,
That's awful...firstly I do have to say WOW he's brave, and secondly why did he have to insult you because you didn't want his card? That's just not right! Naturally, not everyone is going to be interested in my book--I don't expect everyone to be, and I certainly won't be insulting them because they don't want to read it!
It does sound like you made a great impression on the passenger next to you.

Mhmm... "Hunger Games"--I have been wanting to read that!
