Hopefully, the actual book by Murray is considerably better than this review portrays it as being. A story which the reviewer conceives of as representing horrible parental neglect interlaced with stereotypes interlaced with statistics that have no clear relationship either to the purported neglect or the stereotypes. Fox News in print.

As usual, deniro, I'm sure that you find this review to be deeply insightful. After all, we all know that young women who dress casually and young men with tattoos are signs of the fall of civilization. We all know that the young woman retrieving her child should be imprisoned and the child taken into the care of the state.

Of course, if we knew anything about American history we would know that much more horrible stories were told of the immigrants at the turn of the 19th into the 20th century. Their children played with dead rats, and sometimes live rats, on the streets of New York City. They had foreign ways, dressed strangely, and didn't speak English. They lived multiple families to an apartment. They lwere clearly all mad anarchists out to bomb Wall Street and threaten their WASP neighbors. Nevermind that these are the same people who, later in life, and whose children, make up the bulk of rightwing Republicans and run most of America's major corporations. Nevermind that most Horace Alger stories are based on those who started out in such surroundings and pulled themselves up by their own bootstraps.

I am not surprised that is all you have to say in response, but "you too."
