Happy Labor Day weekend to all.

Shut it, fatty!

Jim, don't let Jim make you feel sad. He just hasn't had his morning slap upside the head.

Maybe I should give it to him ;-) Then I wouldn't feel morose.

I did apologise in between the traditional, at least here at Crambo!, double solidus marks. A solidus, you know is a slant or slash symbol, it looks like this '/' most of the time. Sometimes it can look different depending on the weight of the typeface. Did you notice that I said 'typeface', not 'font'? There is a difference, you know. One is...

I talk too much, don't I?

7Citizenjoyce

Oh, I see. Jim is suffering from an over abundant intake of coffee.

8Jim53
sep 1, 2012, 1:38 pm

I guess a caffeine overdose can make one verbose.

I tried to think about the difference between font and typeface (basically, what you use vs. what you see) for a possible guess, but didn't come up with anything... let me know if I need to try again.

Could it be a 3rd pers-
-on verb meaning "is indebted"?
(Not many such verbs, thus far! and whatʻs worse,
The rhyme of it hasnʻt been well vetted.)

10Jim53
sep 1, 2012, 2:28 pm

Like "close" (the verb), "owes" has too sharp a final sound to be a perfect rhyme; Crambo's word rhymes better with "close" (adj.).

alpha not: adipose, close, morose, overdose, owes, verbose

See this right here? What do you think it is? Is it dangerous, could it be fatal, should I have something done about it? You are a doctor, aren't you?

I'm afraid we'll have to run some more expensive tests before I can conclude that it's just a blister.

The suffix "-ose" means "full
of", and oneʻs incined to yell "Bull!"
If words are what a speaker
Becomes too full of; whether meek or
Arrogant, he in that case is too
__ __ __ __ __ __ __ (I think)--how about you?

Just after finishing 13, I notice
"verbose"ʻs already guessed! if thatʻs what your vote is,
So be it, but Iʻll leave it on the screen
Because itʻs the best emulation* Iʻve seen
of Nash, Iʻll go beyond my ration
Of screen space on this one.
Continue and have fun.

*Yes, Iʻm an emulator of that
Great bard, not an imitator or copy-cat!

Crambo's word is neither bellicose nor lacrimose. On the other hand, it is both and much more besides.

In the Footsteps of Harrison
__ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ may not be
Nick Griffithsʻs masterpiece (because, to me,
Nothing could beat his Daredevil

Of Cats. . ., "Footsteps" still has the
phonetic look
of an -oSe, not -oZe, ending.
My dictionary offers both phonet-

On your preference, or what?)
Anyway, if this book youʻve got,
You may have the Crambo! Word;
Itʻs been a long time since of it Iʻve heard.

Crambo's word is not anyone's name, nor is it any of the forms of sugar.

You know, I'm a very important person. I'm thinking of building a mansion with up and down staircases and gold plumbing fixtures. Or maybe I'll run for president. I'll bet I could win the Nobel Prize for literature if I just had time to write.

Joyce, I'm sure you're right. Be sure to invite us all to see the mansion!

"Only one guess so far has the

Is that the same as to say

Sorry, I haven't come up with anything better than "noose," which doesn't rhyme. Assuming that's not it, please give me another hint.

Speaking of hints, there are numerous books whose title is this one word, as well as many others that include it.

31rodneyvc

I was thinking of the wooden frame that the noose attaches to. Clearly not Crambo's word.

Ah, of course, the gallows... duh! Nope, not the word.

One writer uses this title to describe what he calls a personal journey; a certain southern writer got lost there.

I googled "Ah, the stars, the stars" just in case you were referring to something specific that I didn't recognize. Lots of interesting results, including a discussion of whether the term "Earthrise" is appropriate and a blog called "Imaginary Bicycle," from the Doyle quote. But nothing to deter me from saying that this long slog of a game is finally over, with Joyce having divined Crambo's word, which was cosmos. Well done!
