Evangelist Jack C. Shuler

Does anyone know when evangelist Jack C. Shuler (1918-1962) held revival meetings in the Forum in Wichita, Kansas? In the late 1940s and early 1950s he rivaled Billy Graham in popularity. His city-wide meeting saw thousands in attendance throughout the United States and in Ireland. I would also welcome any other information about him.

I am Jack Cornett Shuler's eldest grandchild. His first wife was Dorothy (Dill) (Shuler) Sundin, who is still alive at 94, with whom he raised four children: Jack, Susan, Richard, and Gregg. He divorced my grandmother and married Ruth, with whom he had two more children: Bill and Todd. These two children were tiny boys when their father died at 44. My grandfather died in 1962. Several members of his "team" went with the Billy Graham ministries after his death, including his song leader, Cliff Barrows. Interestingly, my grandfather's youngest child, Bill, is only four years older than myself, since I am the eldest child of the eldest child of Jack C. Shuler. My own father's name is Jack Edward Shuler. I have much to say about my grandfather, but I will leave it at this...He was a man who struggled with the same things we struggle with today, and God used him in spite of his humanity to bring the gospel of Christ to many thousands of people. I could not be more proud to call him my grandfather.

Is Robert H. Shuller, spelled with an extra l, of Crystal Cathedral fame, a relative?

It's Robert Schuller, not Shuler. He is Dutch Reformed.

And thanks for the info about him being Dutch Reformed. If there is anything that p*sses me off it the regular (unreformed) Dutch church.

Robert Schuller is no relation to our family. Of Jack C. Shuler's brothers, only two others, Phil and Bob, were in the ministry. Bill was a 2 star general in the army, buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Ed is still alive, lives in California, and was a VP for Getty Oil for most of the western United States. Jack also had two sisters, Nelle and Dorothy. I can only imagine that the mother of this brood had her hands full, since she was the primary parent for most of the time...Her husband, "Fighing Bob Shuler" (Robert P. Shuler) was pastor of the largest Methodist church in Los Angeles (Trinity Methodist Church), ran for the Senate, had a radio show, and took on the likes of Amy Semple MacPherson and William Randoph Hurst. Interesting family, mine.

Sheri, Thank you very much for your comments. Sorry some don't see the difference between Sh and Sch. I have many more questions, but one that fascinates me has to do with your father. I noticed an old newspaper article (in google news archives) in the middle fifties that said evangelist Jack Shuler's oldest child (your father) had started a career in preaching back then. Is there any truth to that? Thank you.
