So, I've picked a volume of the New Shorter Oxford dictionary, opened it at random, and chosen a word that, to the best of my knowledge, has not been a Crambo word, nor suggested as a clue. It rhymes with 'pet' but surprisingly isn't obscure.

I worry so about losing those little wood strips in my guitar.

Note (no guess): I'd like extra credit for working in two meanings for the same word in one sensible sentence.

#6 I won't string you along - it's not fret!

Threats, threats, Mr Horowitz - have you got any idea how many anonymous henchmen I've killed over the years? I mean, look at you. You don't even have a name tag. You don't stand a chance. Why don't you just fall down?

Not: Let, debt, bet, fret, vet, pet, threat
Alpha not: bet, debt, fret, let, pet, threat, vet

#14 You are St Peter, and I claim my keys! Not sweat!

Not: Let, debt, bet, fret, vet, pet, threat, omelet, sweat, amulet

Crambo's word has a heterograph in the same volume of the Shorter Oxford.

#17 My deepest sympathy - Crambo requires sharp wits, but not sharp knives! It was the other volume, btw.

Alpha not: amulet, bet, debt, fret, let, omelet, pet, sweat, threat, vet, whet, wet

I’m going to sail around those small islands once I get these new laces threaded through the teeny-tiny holes on my topsiders.

#21 I'd delayed responding to the previous incarnation of #21 because I was stumped - market? Just as well you changed it as you saved me some thinking time, and also because you are correct - Crambo's word is islet/eyelet. Well done. Over to you.

#22 Mea culpa !!! *hangs head in shame & begs thy forgiveness :(

I should not have done that but I re-read your last clue about the word being in the other volume and the penny dropped. My previous incarnation was for prophet/profit which would have been in the same volume as wet/whet.
