It's time for my Crambo! clue debut! The one thread I've played was quite a bit of fun, and good exercise for the brain trying to figure out how to rearrange syllables to match up with the clue in the subject. Hopefully mine will stump but not stop.

Is someone chasing you?

3rodneyvc
apr 13, 2013, 9:00 am

If you were down under your pursuer could be a small omnivorous marsupial cousin of the bilby.

2> Please don't give up your pursuit for an answer!

3> Be careful chasing bandicoots as you might crash

NOT: pursuit, bandicoot

(BTW, I edited the first post to fix a minor typo.)

Thanks for the correction - I was puzzled by the original.

Is this something one might slip into to have a faux-boxing match? Kinda kidding!

6> I feel like there's something to this clue that I'm missing, so I'll keep sweating it out until you give me another.

NOT: pursuit, bandicoot, sweatsuit

I was going for bearsuit, thinking of boxing bears (faux), and it actually sort of rhymed, but as I said, I was kidding.

9brightcopy
apr 14, 2013, 3:20 pm

Had never heard of boxing bears. All I could think of was that faux boxing is "sparring". Ah, well.

NOT: pursuit, bandicoot, sweatsuit, bearsuit

(Since there are numerous word + "suit" combinations like "flightsuit" and "pantsuit", let me just go ahead and say that it's not one of those kind of "_______suit"s. I remain mum on whether it's some other sort of "suit" such as "pursuit".)

I got lost wandering around and found myself asking directions at this house with a cheery red light over its front door.

13brightcopy

12> Let me just cover both possibilities and say neither the preposititonal house nor its propositional inhabitants are this thread's word.

NOT: pursuit, bandicoot, sweatsuit, bearsuit, jackboot, repute, prostitute.

Does "We the people" comprise part of the answer?

15brightcopy

14> I'm afraid I cannot ratify that answer.

NOT: pursuit, bandicoot, sweatsuit, bearsuit, jackboot, repute, prositute, constitute

In answering criminal charges, and such writs,

One can plead guilty,not guilty, or stand __ __ __ __,
(Asthe Crambo word how would that suit?)

A stance that may give the prosecution fits,

If they were looking forward to a bleat

Of "ME? Guilty? This is no way to treat

ME!" So itʻs a plea they dislike, but canʻt* reject.

*Or CAN, for all I know. Iʻm just basing this on what I read in an old James Gould Cozzens novel

Kipling wrote an unedifying poem titled "__ __ __ __" about proclivities of the British military occupiers of India, back then;
on the grounds that, as he said elsewhere, "Single men in barracks
Don't grow into plaster saints."
Different # of syllables from
"hirsute" and not quite an exact rhyme, unless you don't pronounce "hirsute" very carefully.

21brightcopy

20> My dogs are barking after slogging through the works of Kipling looking for that "doesn't rhyme or have the same number of syllables" clue! I bet the spectators were reveling in the skoodin froody.

NOT: pursuit, bandicoot, sweatsuit, bearsuit, jackboot, repute, prositute, constitute, mute, compute, boots

Crambo's word does indeed rhyme with the clue, inasmuch as it rhymes with all the "NOT" words. Your personal rhyming may vary with geography.

22brightcopy
Bewerkt: apr 17, 2013, 5:13 pm

20> Of course, only now does it occur to me that "boots" doesn't have four letters.

NOT: pursuit, bandicoot, sweatsuit, bearsuit, jackboot, repute, prositute, constitute, mute, compute, boots, loot

ETA: Though I will confirm that depending on geography and upbringing, "loot" rhymes with "hirsute" just as much as Crambo's word does.

23Jim53

Well, I would never argue with that assertion.

23> Crambo disagrees.

24> Bang!

NOT: pursuit, bandicoot, sweatsuit, bearsuit, jackboot, repute, prositute, constitute, mute, compute, boots, loot, dispute, shoot

"Depending on geography and up bringing,
"loot" rhymes . . ." (22)

Right! Exactly why I thought it was ok to guess it.

As the Scottish church usher said to the congregation member who

29> Very observant of you, but unfortunately not right.

30> Adorable codgers in their pajamas sometimes forget previous clues. ;)

NOT: pursuit, bandicoot, sweatsuit, bearsuit, jackboot, repute, prositute, constitute, mute, compute, boots, loot, dispute, shoot, toot, astute, coot, cute, sleepsuit

ALPHA: astute, bandicoot, bearsuit, boots, compute, constitute, coot, cute, dispute, jackboot, loot, mute, prositute, pursuit, repute, shoot, sleepsuit, sweatsuit, toot

Crambo's word is not very common, and this verb form is less often seen than the noun one.

35brightcopy

NOT: pursuit, bandicoot, sweatsuit, bearsuit, jackboot, repute, prositute, constitute, mute, compute, boots, loot, dispute, shoot, toot, astute, coot, cute, sleepsuit, elute, cahoot

ALPHA: astute, bandicoot, bearsuit, boots, cahoot, compute, constitute, coot, cute, dispute, elute jackboot, loot, mute, prositute, pursuit, repute, shoot, sleepsuit, sweatsuit, toot

Clues:

1) See original post.

2) Is not very common, and this verb form is less often seen than the noun one.

3) (New clue!) Has the same number of letters as "hirsute."
