No message, no clues and look forward to the fun.

I'd thank you for the donut, but the chocolate icing is too runny!

If I'm a competent manager, I am supposed to be able to do this well.

4Jenni_Canuck
mei 27, 2013, 2:11 pm

I have been known to spend frivolously and unwisely :(

5louminus
mei 27, 2013, 10:31 pm

I'm lowering my already sorry opinion of you *&%^#. (Just kidding, 3 guesses.)

6oldstick
mei 29, 2013, 5:03 am

#2 This is a difficult clue. All I can think of are lixiviate and dissipate.
#3 sorry, not delegate.
#4 maybe you mean profligate - super word, but not the one.
#5 any of these? depreciate, underestimate or denigrate? ( the last one is my favourite)
Google wanted me to write favorite.
Not lixiviate, dissipate, delegate, profligate, depreciate, underestimate, denigrate and, while I'm on line, not coagulate or conglomerate either ( in case rodney meant one of those)

7rodneyvc
mei 29, 2013, 5:54 am

#2 I was being an unappreciative person.

8kathi
mei 29, 2013, 8:52 am

I know it's not mine, but I'm going to take it anyway.

9Jenni_Canuck
mei 29, 2013, 12:40 pm

#6 My word in #4 isn't that excellent word profligate :(

I live a life of pleasure especially with respect to alcoholic consumption.

10brightcopy
mei 29, 2013, 12:55 pm

It's not part of the solution. (Chemistry joke.)

11defaults
Bewerkt: mei 29, 2013, 2:08 pm

I haven't joined in one of these things lately, but this looks like a nicely meta moment to do it.

12louminus
mei 29, 2013, 8:27 pm

#5: depreciate and denigrate are correct

13oldstick
mei 30, 2013, 5:26 am

Not appropriate or inebriate. I'll come back to the rest after some thought.

14oldstick
jun 1, 2013, 7:33 am

#10 consolidate? I was never a scientist. Also, I have realised that there are far too many words ending in 'ate' so I'm giving a clue. My word has four syllables.
#7 ingrate?

15brightcopy
jun 1, 2013, 8:20 am

Not consolidate.

16rodneyvc
jun 1, 2013, 8:51 am

#7 Yep.

17oldstick
jun 1, 2013, 9:45 am

precipitate.

Last January Americans did this to Barack Obama for the second time.

17> There ya go.

(if you missed it, 11 was a guess)

21rolandperkins
jun 2, 2013, 2:57 am

Probably not a hyphenated tetrasyllable, but Iʻll try:
Al Gore, John Kerry, John McCain, and Mitt Romney are
__ __ - __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __s of this century.

22oldstick
jun 2, 2013, 6:58 am

AAHHHH, I'm getting lost. Sorry darsu, I don't know what a meta moment is-something like a perfect time, I would guess. kathi, I know Obama was elected but he was also beaten in some votes but I can't think of a word that fits. roland, your guess can't be my word and I don't think you meant candidates as there are too many spaces.
I'll recap and reiterate. The word has four syllables and I wish I had never started this!
Not lixiviate, underestimate, coagulate, conglomerate, delegate, denigrate, depreciate, participate, ingrate, appropriate, inebriate, profligate, consolidate.
If I get another turn it will be an easy one!

23kathi
jun 2, 2013, 7:58 am

What Americans did to Barack Obama last January was "inaugurate" him for the second time.

Oldstick, I feel your pain. After the momentary pleasure of winning a round, I realized that it was going to be much harder work to be the lead person!

24defaults
jun 2, 2013, 12:53 pm

I'll admit #11 was a bit obscure. I meant that I was joining in the round to guess "join in".

25rolandperkins
Bewerkt: jun 3, 2013, 3:27 am

(for) "candidates". . .there are too many spaces." (21>22)

Yes, the guess WAS "candidates" preceded by an "ex-", which explains the extra 2 spaces.

26oldstick
jun 3, 2013, 10:54 am

Darn, I'd just guessed inaugurate. It's also NOT nominate, intemperate, intoxicate, accurate, investigate or co-operate. Have I left anyone out? (louminus's third word?)

27Jenni_Canuck
jun 3, 2013, 3:53 pm

Me! Me! #4 & #9
*waves from across the pond*

I could just disperse or scatter I guess :(

28oldstick
jun 5, 2013, 9:06 am

Hi Jenni, I think I've got it - dissipate! Not correct, I'm afraid.

29rodneyvc
jun 5, 2013, 7:33 pm

The rate of change of the speed of suggestions seems to be positive, or is it negative (two related suggestions).

30justjim
jun 5, 2013, 10:16 pm

I long have been a stranger here,
And so return with sense of fear.
I hope you can relieve my gloom;
Perhaps provide me with a room?

31oldstick
jun 7, 2013, 5:08 am

Not dissipate, accelerate, decelerate, intimidate or domesticate. #30.Is the fear the clue, or the room?

32justjim
jun 7, 2013, 7:57 am

Perhaps you could put up with both?

33kathi
jun 8, 2013, 7:02 pm

If I want to mislead you, might I do this?

34oldstick
jun 9, 2013, 5:28 am

kathi - I have just found 'prestigitate' Is that what you meant? I didn't even know it existed. I was going to try for 'innacurate' but without much hope as it is the wrong part of speech.
jim, you always give me a hard time - all I have so far is 'tolerate' and it's too short.

35kathi
jun 9, 2013, 2:18 pm

If I deliberately say something to mislead you, I "prevaricate."

36justjim
jun 9, 2013, 10:42 pm

//Just focus on providing me a room then!//

37kathi
jun 9, 2013, 11:28 pm

I can stop the chest compressions because your heart is beating on its own again.

38oldstick
jun 11, 2013, 9:13 am

I refuse to give up but it is still eluding me, jim. I don't think it can be incarcerate or domesticate. There are still too many options. I'll work on it.
kathi - it should be pulsate but that's too short. It could be palpitate but that doesn't seem right.
I'll go through all the wrong answers next time.
Meanwhile - the first letter is to be found among the first three letters of the alphabet.

39kathi
jun 11, 2013, 9:37 am

I had "resuscitate" in mind for #37.

40kathi
Bewerkt: jun 12, 2013, 11:31 pm

My blood is thickening. Sorry - just checked back and see that "coagulate" has already been eliminated.

41justjim
jun 12, 2013, 10:52 pm

//I could claim my guess at #30 was still valid, it having four syllables and starting with "A", were it not for the fact that if it was your word, you would surely have recognised it! I could give it up, but not if you want to keep working on it.//

42kathi
jun 12, 2013, 11:20 pm

Perhaps this will help me sleep tonight.

43kathi
jun 12, 2013, 11:26 pm

We shall ruthlessly destroy the whole lot of them!

44oldstick
jun 13, 2013, 4:53 am

Got it Jim! accommodate! Don't know why it took me so long.
I haven't got one of yours, yet, kathi, but you are getting perilously close with annihilate.
Not appropriate, consolidate, coagulate, conglomerate, accurate, co-operate, or accommodate.

45kathi
jun 13, 2013, 10:52 am

A "barbiturate" will help me sleep tonight.
If I'm "perilously close with annihilate" then I'm going to shut up and let somebody else win!

46oldstick
jun 16, 2013, 6:03 am

kathi - if that's a clue - you have already won but I dare not tell you the result in case you really don't want to be the winner!

47kathi
jun 16, 2013, 10:19 pm

Actually my last comment wasn't a clue - I really didn't want to win because I didn't have time to start a new round. I'm president of the Syracuse Chorale and we just finished a week of dress rehearsals and performances of our annual cabaret and I was just too distracted and overwhelmed. But, it's over now (and quite successful) and the following statement is a clue:

I won't wipe out the whole lot of you, but I am going to kill your leader.

48oldstick
jun 17, 2013, 5:29 am

Ah - then you were not correct after all! Back to the battle!

49Jenni_Canuck
jun 17, 2013, 11:09 am

Shall I make a prediction?

50kathi
jun 17, 2013, 5:55 pm

I've been toying with the manner of your death, but I have decided that I shall smother you with a pillow.

51oldstick
jun 18, 2013, 9:34 am

#49. not anticipate, #50 it can't be suffocate because that has too few syllables and does not begin with a, b, or c so it must be assassinate! So aggressive!

52kathi
jun 18, 2013, 9:56 am

I was thinking about "asphyxiate" when I suggested smothering.

53oldstick
jun 19, 2013, 9:51 am

Ahh, but I'm being passive and you are being active!

54Jenni_Canuck
jun 19, 2013, 1:04 pm

In short, I think it’s time to speed things up! I will collect all the clues and try highlight the solution. Unless, of course, you’re trying to make me feel like I don’t belong? I do try to express my thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively.
:-(

SIX 4-syllable guesses

55oldstick
jun 20, 2013, 5:11 am

Not accelerate, accumulate, affiliate or articulate, accommodate, appropriate, consolidate, coagulate, conglomerate, co-operate. I know I haven't found them all yet but the clues do not suggest the right answer. I still need to find the 'not belonging' word. I'll be back tomorrow.

56Jenni_Canuck
jun 20, 2013, 12:32 pm

#55: Three out of six correct: accelerate, accumulate, articulate. All six words begin with 'a'.

57kathi
jun 20, 2013, 1:45 pm

I confess that I previously threatened to annihilate, assassinate, or asphyxiate you. I apologize and I wish to make things more bearable (clue 1) by reducing the intensity (clue 2) of my threats. I solemnly declare (clue 3) that I now loathe and abhor (clue 4) my previous behavior.
Please forgive me. Nothing must be allowed to do this (clue 5) to your affections.

58oldstick
jun 20, 2013, 3:16 pm

#56 Pity, my word doesn't!

59rolandperkins
Bewerkt: jun 22, 2013, 3:25 pm

A politico-economic device that is tetra-
syllabic: Tea Partiers say: "Better a
Do-Nothing Government than one that over-reaches
And does too much! Our crowd teaches
Good Governmental Behavior:
"__ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __!!!"
Is the watchword, if you want to be not just good but GREAT!

60Jenni_Canuck
jun 21, 2013, 12:28 pm

Does anyone have an antacid? I know you will sympathize but I’m not sure I should give up. Obviously, I'm not explaining myself clearly. Maybe we can work together and build a monument to the great Celestial Crambo although we may need to select someone to help focus our efforts?

Seven guesses this time

61oldstick
jun 22, 2013, 8:40 am

#Jenni - hidden in your guesses is the correct answer. I really think you should, at least, I am going to 'capitulate.' That saves me trying to work out another of roland's suggestions. Never again will I choose a word with so many options!

62Jenni_Canuck
jun 24, 2013, 10:09 am

Some would say, therein lies the rub. But, more options makes for a greater challenge and, for me, therein lies the fun!
New game here

63rolandperkins
jun 26, 2013, 3:19 am

The guess in 59 was, b t w, "deregulate".
(Just citing, not recommending).

64oldstick
jun 27, 2013, 4:40 am

Thanks, roland. I was getting tired by then, and had limited guesses to a, b,and c in an effort to get to the end so I would never have worked it out!
