Ok, so it's been a while, but Assassination Vacation is the only book in my library that I can think of with an author who's been on TDS. Something needs to be the first post in this group.
I love this book, I love that it starts by talking about Stephen Sondheim's Assassins, as that's why I'm so interested in this segment of American history. I love that the author referenced Sports Night re: people comparing themselves to Rosa Parks too much in The Partly Cloudy Patriot, which I need to read in its entirity one of these days.

I remember seeing resident expert John Hodgman hawking his book The Areas of my Expertise. He never broke a smile the entire time he was talking about the great hobo uprising, and JS was laughing so hard he couldn't breathe. Two weeks later, he was a regular on the show. I immediately went out and got the book, and I wasn't disappointed.
The show's website needs an 'authors who have appeared on the show and the books they were plugging' list.

I'd forgotten about that. Sort of remembered that John Hodgman was an author while forgetting to connect that to what he'd written, I guess. I'll need to put that book on my list.

Oh wikipedia, is there nothing you can't do?

Too bad author's not one of the catagories. After all, some of the people on the political guests list were there plugging books, but aren't identified as authors.

But if you pick a year on the list, it says what each guest was and what they were plugging. If it was a book, there is usually a link to the book's wikipedia page. The list is sparse for the first several years, but after mid-2003 it's pretty complete. Not great for finding a specific author, true, but it's better than nothing.
