My wife and I were invited by a Tibetan lady friend that she works with here in Victoria, British Columbia, a lady by the name of Tara, to visit their home for a Tibetan Christmas dinner party just a few days ago. It was a very unusual experience for both my wife and I, as we are Roman Catholics!

We both have a long-standing and ever-growing interest in Tibetan culture, and are sympathetic to the plight of the Tibetan people under communist control.

An elderly lama attended this domestic party in his burgundy coloured robes, and was given all the appropriate honour that his age and wisdom would suggest. We don't speak a word of Tibetan, but we stood and paid our respects as best we could.

There were pictures of the Dalai Lama and the new young Panchen Lama (I believe) framed and displayed in positions of prominence.

The children were very well behaved, the cuisine was tasty, unusual and plentiful, and our hosts were very gracious.

We regretted having to leave this small Tibetan community party early, but will remember our very special Tibetan Christmas party in Victoria in 2007 for years to come!
