I recently finished Portraits Without Frames by Lev Ozerov. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would have wished for a more balanced male/female author/poet/artist/musician/etc but it is what it is. I am curious about how well they were translated. They're free-form in the English (and I think the note said that they were in the Russian too which helps translation some) and I think the translators did a good job. It's kind of a weird book as they're sort of biographies, except they aren't, they're poems about how Ozerov viewed these people. The title is really apt.
