Thanksgiving is coming. So why not give some tips of reading? Someone will surely be thankful.

I am slowly reading Legend of the Satsuma Samurai, Volume 1 by Hiroshi Hirata and speed of reading is due to highly detailed and powerful art and the deepness of the text.

So far this month:

Cousin Joseph, a depression-era noir story by the great Jules Feiffer, second in a trilogy.

Goblin Girl, semi-auto-bio from a Swedish art student, dealing with anxiety & angst. Interesting artwork.

Daredevil by Chip Zdarsky Vol. 3: Through Hell, a collection of Marvel's current iteration of Daredevil. I think Zdarsky is doing a good job.

My only comics read so far has been Monstress Vol. 5. Otherwise I'm mostly sticking to prose reading this month.

Those interested in alt-comics history may enjoy In Love with Art: Françoise Mouly's Adventures in Comics with Art Spiegelman, a short-ish, informative bio of the Raw editor, New Yorker art director, & Spiegelman's life & business partner. A really impressive person!

So, I've been reading Heavy Metal magazine, for the first time in 40 years (yes I'm old). There's some pretty good work happening, despite the occasional stupid chainmail bikini cover. Not all the stories appeal to me, but many do. I think my favorite feature is the gallery and interview of an illustrator in each issue--that work can be stunning.

Started in November, although I see that it is now December, Black Stars Above. Horror from mythology of an underrepped community--Canadian First Nations.
