I have noticed that several of my books that had a cover image have changed to my default cover. This includes at least one book obtained through LTER. At some point I will go in and change them back but what is causing the change in the first place?

Can you give us a few examples so we can explore what's going on?
It's possible, if you are using Amazon covers, that Amazon is either no longer offering that book, and as such no cover, or that Amazon changed the cover so it changed your book's cover.

I ran across this the other day. It changed back to the cover I'd selected when I recalculated the covers.

>2 gilroy: I can't remember the title I saw it on, but I do remember I was not using an Amazon cover.

Most of your covers are from Amazon. If Amazon starts using a different cover for your ISBN your cover will change. If Amazon stops carrying that ISBN, and stops saving a cover image, your cover will disappear. Member covers are stored at LT, and are stable.

>5 MarthaJeanne: Also, does it make a difference which ISBN/cover is the most common for the work?
(I know it helps to remember that covers are calculated, unless you specify a cover uploaded by an LT user.)

No. If you chose an Amazon cover, LT does not have that cover saved, it gets pulled from Amazon. If Amazon changes what they use for that ISBN, the cover on your book will change.

>6 karenb: If enough members have chosen a member-uploaded cover for that ISBN, it becomes the suggested cover for that ISBN. It's rare because most have Amazon covers on and don't go to specifically chose a member cover, so the calculated suggested cover for ISBN is usually an Amazon one. Mostly, I've seen the system defaulting to a member cover when Amazon doen't have any for that ISBN

One example is: The U.S. Navy’s “Interim” LSM(R)s in World War II by Ron Mackay. This was an LTER book and was added to my library through the ER link. Since this is from a few years ago, I don't know if LT used an Amazon cover or not. Many of the others are. I'll have to explore things to see if my account defaults to Amazon.

I stumbled across this when I saw a default cover on a book for which I thought I had selected a member uploaded cover. Assuming I was wrong and it was some Amazon weirdness, I recalculated the covers, which brought a cover back to my copy, clicked on change cover, and discovered I *had* been using a member cover.
Sorry I can't remember the title.

Closing. I think this was probably a case of the cover changing, either through an Amazon cover or a winning member cover which wasn't explicitly chosen.
