One of the interviews in The "Good War" by Studs Turkel is with a member of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade. Reading that was the first time I ever heard the term "premature Anti-Fascist." How is possible to prematurely against fascism?

You might try to put the same question to the WWII group.

Well, I was stunned to find that out of all of the books in my list on the Spanish Civil War, none were specifically about the Abraham Lincoln Battalion. But, here's a Democracy Now! broadcast on the topic and another earlier one. And here is the website of the Abraham Lincoln Battalion Archives maintained by the Veterans of the Abraham Lincoln Battalion.

And here's a big list o' books from the LOC. I have no idea which are any good. Any clues on that score would be appreciated.

All those touchstones were making the message wonky, so here's the rest of the list. I actually got rather more success on the touchstones than I expected.

I Wonder As I Wander by Langston Hughes, his second autobiography, includes some chapters on the Spanish Civil War and the Brigade, as well as on Moorish soldiers forced to fight for Franco's side. Hughes covered the war for the Baltimore Afro American newspaper.
