A new study published in Journal of the American Medical Association’s Surgery found that firearm deaths are more likely in small rural towns than in major urban cities, adding to research that contradicts common belief that Democratic blue areas have higher incidences of gun-related deaths than do Republican red districts...

According to data from the CDC, these are the states with the highest firearm mortality rates per 100,000 in 2021:

🔴Mississippi had a firearm mortality rate of 33.9, making it the state with the highest rate in 2021. The state also used its electoral votes to vote for then President Trump in the 2020 election.
🔴Louisiana had a firearm mortality rate of 29.1 and voted for Trump.
🔵New Mexico had a firearm mortality rate of 27.8 and voted for President Biden.
🔴Alabama had a firearm mortality rate of 26.4 and voted for Trump.
🔴Wyoming had a firearm mortality rate of 26.1 and voted for Trump.
🔴Alaska had a firearm mortality rate of 25.2 and voted for Trump.

The White House has announced a new national office to support states implementing “red flag” laws to combat gun violence, an initiative funded by the justice department... The launch of the federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Resource Center (Erpo) follows Joe Biden’s establishment of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention in September, which the president tapped Harris to lead... Erpo is designed to help state and local governments, law enforcement, and others – including behavioral health and social service providers – “optimize” the use of red flag laws... which facilitate the temporary removal of firearms from a person a court believes capable of harming themselves or others...

Haiti: US guns pour into Port-au-Prince, fuelling surge in violence (BBC)

Haiti is a state out of action. More than two weeks after the country's prime minister resigned, following a surge of violence in Port-au-Prince, details of a presidential transitional council have still not been revealed. One of the challenges this council will have to face is the illegal trafficking of guns, which has powered the gangs which have taken over... "All the guns here are from the US, everybody knows it. If the US wants to stop this, they could easily do it one month!" He pleads: "We are asking the US to give us a chance to live, just give us a chance"... The UN report said some estimates put it at half a million legal and illegal weapons here as of 2020. It reported that guns and ammunition were being smuggled in from land, air and sea from US states such as Florida, Texas and Georgia... In July 2022, Haitian authorities seized a huge haul of dozens of weapons with 15,000 rounds of ammunition. They were stuffed in a shipment from Florida heading to an Episcopal church in Haiti...
