Does anyone know of a recent publication/translation of Jordanes' "Romana"? I couldn't find one on Amazon. Thanks.

I don't know of a recent translation. You might email Walter Goffart (U of Toronto?). He has dealt extensively in the past with Jordanes and Paul the Deacon and crew.

Otherwise you're going to have to resort to Mommsen and the Monumenta.

Thanks for the suggestion. Dr Goffart didn't know of one, and I couldn't find any mention of the Monumenta in English - perhaps I should make my own translation, a labour of love and ineptitude.

Personally, I think that's a WONDERFUL idea. I would certainly read it.

Howse your latin, franknotes -- classical or transitional? And did Dr. Goffart urge you on to greatness, or discourage you by pointing out Jordanes bad grammar?

Only grammar school level I'm afraid, but it might make a fun project all the same - just don't expect it in the shops any time soon!
