Right this is a topic i love to rant about.
What films that have been adapted from books have made you want to go on a murdering rampage because they ruined the book that you love?

Me personally, i have a loong list of films which do this. My favourites to rant about are the Harry Potter films (after the second film anyway) and the Eragon film.
I really liked the books in both of these cases but i felt that the films ruined the books by missing enormous chunks of what i considered to be necessary material. I know that its not possible to keep every single detail from a book but the filmmakers for these books could have tried a bit harder to keep more accurately to the books.

What films have really got on your book-loving nerves?

Haha rachel! is this what you was on about on the lex?

Ok well yes the harry potter movies are one and then of corse theres twilight which I'm hoping they'll do a better job with new moon but most probably not, and from the other thread of corse the other boleyn girl was deeply tragic.

Yes tis the topic i was on about lol!

Oh yea Twilight did disappoint me slightly cos there were many things which weren't included by that harpy of a screenwriter *grrr* I loved the blood-typing incident and it was fairly important for showing their relationship but noo! Rosenburg didn't feel it was necessary! argh its not a good idea to start me off ranting about the missing stuff from Twilight or i will be here all day!
yes The Other Boleyn Girl film was atrocious - they completely naffed up the whole point of it which was the focus being on MARY not ANNE!! they gave Anne that one line "oh now you make me look like the other boleyn girl" and proceeded from there to ignore Mary to the point of nearly shunting her out of the film!!
ARGH!!!!!
*deep breaths* calm , calm

Ahh yes I was really let down by that film I thought it would have been good as well with Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson in but ahh it ticked me off.

One thing that I loved about The Other Boleyn Girl is how interesting it is that if your not the kings wife well then it doesnt matter if you have his children there just known as bastards its amazing to think that there are ordinary people out there now who could be royalty.

I agree with the Lady Violet, I was very dissapointed in the movie adaptaion of The Other Boelyn Girl, it was so far off from the book.

Now, Possession written by A.S. Byatt was made in to a good movie. I liked that one. It stayed close to the book's story line.

So, let me ask you girls this, do you like to read the book first then see the movie, or the other way around?

I can't stand to see a movie then find out it was adapted from a book. Ruins the book for me to see the movie first. The movie gives you images in your head instead of allowing your imaginaton to work magic while reading.

Oh I hate watching a movie before I read the book it just ruins it because I like to imagine the characters myself in my head. If theres a book I want to read that’s also a movie I’ll avoid watching the movie until I’ve read the book. But if I’m not particularly bothered about reading the book then I’ll just watch the movie.

Oh yeah i would have to read the book before watching the movie or i will either end up hating the book or hating the film when i realise how far off it was. That would annoy me cos if i like the film then it spoils it and i would like to be able to watch a film without criticising it for being a bad book adaptation.
