One of our local (Sydney, Australian) FM radio stations will soon be broadcasting some of the music with which Jane Austen would have been familiar and which she had, apparently, copied into her own music books.
The hour-long programme is scheduled for 3p.m. on Tuesday 17 August
(Australian Eastern Standard Time). Here's a link to the station's site:

I recall a programme about JA's music books which was broadcast here in the UK some time ago. They even played a piece which JA herself might, possibly, have composed. (If it was her work, it indicated that she was rather better at writing novels than at composing music!)

>2 willgrstevens: It looks as though we'll be spared Austen's putative musical composition.... The programme includes music by Dibdin, Haydn, Hook, our old friend Anon., Shield, and Giorgiana, Duchess of Devonshire.

Our local chapter of the Jane Austen Society of North America (Tampa Bay area) had a music-themed meeting last fall. One of the women is an outstanding pianist, and she treated us to music that Austen would have known. It was a lovely afternoon.

I was one of the second-tier presenters at the "Woodstock" for Jane Austen studies last year:

One of the many highlights of the conference was a special concert at the Chawton church where JA worshipped, in which a number of songs which were in JA's songbook were performed.
It was really fantastic!

>4 Cyberlibrariannyc: and 5..... Those sound like delightful occasions. It looks as if about half of the pieces in the programme for Tuesday th 17th August (3p.m. Australian EST) will be songs; I'm looking forward to it.
