Beschrijving:
Formerly a branch library built for black patrons during the era of racial segregation, this building now serves as a repository for documents, records, photographs, books, African carvings, furniture, and special collections that all relate to the African American experience in the United States.

The building opened in 1931 as the segregated Davis Avenue branch of the Mobile Public Library. Stocked with donations from the African American community, the library was also built as a small-scale replica of the main library building. Once segregation was abolished, the building was used as a repository for government documents. In 1983 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

In 1992 the building reopened as the National African American Archives and Museum, under founding director Delores S. Dees. Admission to the museum exhibits is free.
