This is a marvellous study of the of the status quaestionis of the OT in the letter of Hebrews. Docherty begins with a survey of major commentaries, monographs, and studies on this topic. She notices two deficiencies in these studies, lack of knowledge of advances made in the fields of Midrashic and Septuagint studies. She devotes the next two chapters to these areas respectively. The final chapter applies this research in initial form to the citations in chapters 1, 3, and 4. Docherty has made a plea for NT scholars to be more diligent in their research. Hauptbeschreibung: Susan Docherty argues that the Letter to the Hebrews can be better understood if it is read seriously as an example of first century Jewish biblical interpretation. Her study therefore engages with the question of the date and implications of the "parting of the ways" between early Judaism and Christianity, and then introduces the reader to some of the highly sophisticated contemporary aproaches to analyzing the exegetical techniques present in the Jewish midrashim.
