Beloved of the Fallen grabbed me from the first paragraph:

"The angel was afraid. He knew now how much he had sinned. Yet he flew toward heaven faster than he had ever flown before."

Valentin must redeem himself for his past mistakes. He is denied entrance into heaven and must join the ranks of Lucifer and the other fallen until he figures out how to appease his Lord. Lucifer wants Armegeddon to begin and to do that the Destined must bring it about themselves and without any outside force telling them to. But, they can be influenced.

Today the Destined is smart and savvy Kira Castlemaine who has just stepped into her deceased father’s political seat. This is a dream come true for her but there is so much going on that she doesn’t understand. She feels that something more sinister is in the works with her “Uncle” Phil and his connection to secret society The Light House. Her only salvation is her new lover and political consultant, Valentin, who seems to be the only good in her life. This time Valentin is going to get it right. He will guide Kira without getting entangled and falling in love. As they say, history does repeat itself and now it is a race to stop the end of the world.

The whole good versus evil wages war throughout the pages of Beloved of the Fallen. The reader is swept into this battle and we nervously anticipate the climax. Savannah Kline’s debut novel is captivating. Valentin is a complex character who must fight his inner demons to be accepted back into heaven and Kira must learn to stand on her own feet and voice her opinions and not let outside people dictate her life. Together they learn from each other and fulfill what they are truly destined to become. ( )

This book started out really good with the angel Valentin's fall in ancient Babylon. And then on to current day where we meet Kira after the death of her Congressman father. Valentin and Kira meet when he is ordered by Lucifer to help her run for Congress. Lucifer thinks she is the Destined one to lead the world to nuclear war and his reign of earth.

Of course Valentin and Kira fall in love and I understood their relationship in the beginning. But we only get Kira's viewpoint for most of the rest of the book. I wanted more of Valentin's viewpoint. It would have helped me understand his feelings and motives more.

I think my biggest complaint is the book felt too rushed and short. Problems are resolved very easily, especially in regards with Valentin. The book needed more emotion and more story. ( )

I was so excited when I found Beloved of the Fallen because it was the first book about angel that I read. I have a big expectation for this book and it did not fail me. At first I thought it would be full of romance. But I was wrong. It was not that shallow.

Although the prologue was boring, its 28 chapters hooked me. It was a fast paced novel. The mystery inside kept my nose buried in it. I loved the idea that the author brought. She mixed little fantasy and some political issues. The last part was my favorite. It was written very well. Even if the angel or demon were not there, I think it still would be interesting to read.

Kira, the main character, was a beautiful, smart and strong young woman. It was not difficult to like her. The author wrote about her in sequence. So I could keep the track of her life. From her childhood, high school till she was involved in politic. I liked the chapter which told me about her relation with his father. And talk about Valentin Ashford, the fallen angel, I really want to like him. Unfortunately till the end of the book, I just could not connect to him. There was a big hope for more awesome things that he could have shown. This book is supposed to be about fallen angel. But he did not play his role

If you are into political novel, you might want to read this book.

Cover
I wish I could see the other edition. I liked the White House background but I'd love to see Kira in front not Valentin ( )

Beloved of the Fallen by Savannah Kline

This book began with an angel named Valentin being sent on an assignment to Babylon by the Heavenly Father. He was instructed to observe “the Destined” in Babylon, and not interfere in their fate. Upon seeing the plight of the Destined, Valentine went beyond the parameters of his instructions and got involved with Amaris, one of the destined. The consequences of his interference resulted in Valentin being cast out of Heaven. Valentin was then approached by Lucifer, who convinces him to join him and the other fallen angels in hell.

The story picked up in the present day Washington D.C. Congress. Lucifer gives Valentin an assignment, as you would guess, with a Destined named Kira Castlemaine. Kira was a heroine that didn’t have the kind of connection with her father that she craved as a child. While it appeared that the grief over the wife’s death pushed the father away, we learned that the father was serving Lucifer. I wished that the author addressed that subplot, because it would have shed more light on his intentions, especially regarding his daughter. I was also unclear on how and why the Castlemaine ancestors ended up serving Lucifer, but it was clear that Kira had different ideas about the world. It was evident that Kira’s decisions in her career would have an impact on the world. Whether it was a positive impact or negative impact became the struggle of two opposing forces.

This assignment gave Valentin an opportunity to either assist Lucifer in his evil master plan or find a way to gain redemption with his Heavenly Father. The choice lied in how he dealt with Congresswoman Kira Castlemaine, the only remaining descendant of the Destined.

I enjoyed the author’s writing style as she weaved a tale dealing with fate versus freedom of choice. But the ending was rushed and it felt like the author just wanted to get to a positive conclusion. In addition, but I didn’t have the kind of connection with Kira that I would allow me to feel her dilemma. Instead, I felt Valentin’s angst and his sorrow throughout the book. I just kept wishing that some how he would be brought out of hell, where he clearly felt out of place and he didn’t want to be. I had a lot of unanswered questions, but overall I appreciated this story because it offered an opportunity for redemption. I would give this story 3 1/2 stars. ( )
