Although most famous as John Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono has many strings to her bow and, given her media profile, it is a wonder that there have never been any major books written about her life. While most writers usually talk about the part she played in breaking up the Beatles, this book bucks that trend, focusing on her extraordinary life, from her childhood in Nagasaki to her move to London in the '60s where she joined the community of avant-garde artists and where she met John Lennon. This book was intriguing but also shit.
It made me wonder why the author even wrote it. He claims to be a fan but clearly he hates Yoko and John with a passion. He describes John as a lazy, unmotivated git who was nagged and harrassed throughout his career by Yoko. He blames Yoko for wrecking The Beatles. He wants to marry Paul McCartney. Paul McCartney is the good guy in this book - even though he's actually a wifebashing alcoholic in real life.
Anyway, I digress...
The author has little time or understanding for Yoko's Art (Ok, seriously WHO DOES ANYWAY?!) so it makes you wonder why he talks about it so much, even if he just knocks it.
I learned a little bit about Yoko but nowhere does it describe her as a particularly remarkable woman. I got the impression that she's a cold-hearted, greedy woman who manipulated ppl to become famous.
As said, I don't understand why the author even bothered writing this if he disrespects her so much.
Oh, BTW, he TOTALLY overuses the word "OSTENSIBLY" in the book. His publisher should SOOO be shot for this. Pardon the pun.
I'm outta here.
Don't read it. It's poo. ( )
