It has the usual Ellen jokes,but...ahh it just wasn't the same as her most recent book. I listened to this to maximize the experience, though I didn't find her tone to be as casual as I am used to. And that ruined it for me. Don't get me wrong; I still enjoyed this. I just wish it had a better narration tone. I guess Ellen hadn't completely found her style back then. She is a stand up comedian and maybe talking to a microphone with no audience was weird? Idk.. This is definitely one of the more light-hearted autobiographies I have read this semester and I loved it! She talks about what she sees in everyday life and what she has to deal with on occasion such as getting 21 minutes of sleep consecutive days and still maintaining to function. I am going to have to use some of her phrases she has come up with sometime too because they are hysterical! I would definitely recommend this autobiography because even though it was a longer book for me, I flew through it! I would read aloud certain pages during snack time to 5th graders. Oh, I wish I had read this before picking up Seriously ... I'm Kidding. The Funny Thing is... did make me laugh - of course, it's Ellen after all - but, with the exception of a few chapters, it is not as coherent and thought-provoking as her next book. The Funny Thing is... is just that little bit too silly to be really funny. It's cute, tho. Review first posted on BookLikes: http://brokentune.booklikes.com/post/993951/the-funny-thing-is I like Ellen a lot, but to read this book I needed to be in the mood for stand-up, because that's essentially what it was. (Some of the bits were actually from one of her shows that I've seen on DVD.) Plenty of it was funny, but in the silly way of humor that has no purpose but to be funny. I'm really more in the mood for actual memoir right now. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

Ellen DeGeneres published her first book of comic essays, the #1 bestselling My Point...And I Do Have One, way back in 1996. Not one to rest on her laurels, the witty star of stage and screen has since dedicated her life to writing a hilarious new book. That book is this book. After years of painstaking, round-the-clock research, surviving on a mere twenty minutes of sleep a night, and collaborating with lexicographers, plumbers, and mathematicians, DeGeneres has crafted a work that is both easy to use and very funny. Along with her trademark ramblings, The Funny Thing Is... contains hundreds of succinct insights into her psyche and offers innovative features including: -More than 50,000 simple, short words arranged in sentences that form paragraphs. -Thousands of observations on everyday lifeâ??from terrible fashion trends to how to handle seating arrangements for a Sunday brunch with Paula Abdul, Diane Sawyer, and Eminem. -All twenty-six letters of the Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
