I suspect a poet with a collection like this would never make it past the poetry publishing thought police today. However, its quirky humor is enough to set you back to think about the state of the world and how it has changed. Naughty, irreverent fun, but not for tykes. ( )

Hilaire Belloc is Hillaire Belloc . The poems in this volume were written 80 - 110 years ago, but they stand the test of time. They are still witty and humourous, very irreverant in places, and not overly dated. Be aware that there are a few words in the volume which would not vaguely pass any test of political correctness.
The Folio Society edition has wonderful illustrations by Posy Simmonds. ( )
