In this meta-picture book, Larry is a peacock who wants to have the book all to himself. Of course, many different animals appear and ruffle Larry's feathers, but there's a fantastic spread where Larry reclaims the spotlight (the pages shine!). But like the Little One in the song "Ten in the Bed," when Larry finally has the book to himself, he's lonely. Lesson learned, Limelight Larry.

This definitely has the appeal of [b:Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus|191113|Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!|Mo Willems|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1328495575s/191113.jpg|884960]. I'm excited to bust it out at story time. ( )

48 months - one of our least favorite styles of books to read... Where the character talks directly to the reader. Not a fan of the illustration style either. Enough said. ( )

The book is overwhelming with art and writing (sub-messages) but designed to create a over-top performance. Story is about the Pea-cock (Larry) telling the story of himself having a book, the one the reader is looking at. Gradually small to large characters decide to jump in the story within the story of telling this book. It's witty and has good dialogue for a growing reader. But with all the shiny gloss and foil there is a lesson learned by Larry. It doesn't feel good to have limelight when it cant be shared. The author adds literary components from other stories (wolf and the dark woods, mouse and elephant) that remind me of other stories. The dialogue is great and can be told by any age....good read ( )

This book is funny, colorful, and imaginative, and is sure to be a hit with kids. I would use it to teach about characterization. ( )

I did not use this book in my class, but I did watch my partner use it. This is about a peacock who likes to be the center of attention but finds out in the end that its not all that great. This book is good for teaching prediction and retelling, but also has a very valuable lesson which is the dangers of being prideful. ( )
