Published in 1965, Analog 3 is a collection of 8 short stories published in Analog magazine during that year. With the exception of the story by Clifford Simak the stories have not aged well. There are a couple stories of the space opera genre, a telepath who needs an energy source to engage in telepathy, an almost factual account of what it would be like to actually repair a satellite in space, a dystopia where chemistry alone rules, and a story about issues concerning a copyright.

Highlifter – Gordon Dickson – space pirate is actually a space hero – 1 star

Not in the Literature – Christopher Anvil - a world where chemistry is king and physics is the realm of crackpots. – 2 stars

Sonny – Rick Raphael - If you are a telepath who needs to take all of the energy from the surrounding countryside to call home – what value would you be to the military – 2.5 stars

The Trouble with Telstar – John Berryman – a short story that does a decent job of describing what it really is like to ride a shuttle into space in order to repair a faulty satellite. – 3 stars for predictive accuracy

New Folks Home – Clifford Simak – Just because you are old and retired doesn’t mean you don’t have skills that someone would like you use for your and their benefit. – 4 stars

Industrial Revolution – Winston P. Sanders – At some point a sovereign country is going to want to reign in its colonies and at some point the colonies aren’t going to take it anymore. – 2.5 stars

A World by the Tale – Seaton McKettrig – if your book is copyrighted across the habitable part of the Milky Way just how much can you expect in royalties? – 2 stars

Thin Edge – Jonathan MacKensie – If you live in a world with a place for everything and everything in its place and you like that kind of world you might want to think carefully about introducing an invention that could change everything. 1.5 stars

I guess I didn't mind spending the time reading this book but, as noted, the stories are quite dated and, with the exception of the Simak story, others have done a better job with the same or nearly the same plot lines. ( )
