Fantasy. Fiction. Romance. HTML:

The Pacific Northwest...home to lush forests and constant rain, to lumberjacks and computer geeks, especially those of the vampire kind. Sophia, beautiful and deadly, has spent the last hundred years dancing her way through the balmy nights and hot-blooded men of South America. But when her Sire sends an urgent summons, Sophia rushes home to Vancouver only to find he has disappeared, leaving nothing behind but three dead vampires and a letter with Sophia's name on it. Colin Murphy, a former Navy SEAL, came to the Northwest seeking a quiet place to heal the scars earned in more than a decade at war. But when someone starts killing local vampires and torturing their mates, Colin takes on the mantle of a warrior once again as he sets out to find the killers and do whatever it takes to stop them, even if that means hunting with vampires. Following her Sire's trail of death to a small town in northern Washington, Sophia unexpectedly discovers the heat of a South American night in Colin's arms. But too soon, Sophia and Colin find themselves in a race to uncover the killers before the next dead vampire becomes Sophia herself.

4.75 Stars

I had to really think on this before rating it. Quite a few editing/typo errors in my copy. At least 10, maybe more. I quit highlighting them, so I don't have a correct count.
My other problem, that really isn't a problem, but kind of was, is how much of the story did not have Sophia & Colin in it.
Raphael & Cyn constituted a larger part in this story than Sophia and Colin. At times it felt like they were secondary characters instead of the main characters.

The story itself was fantastic. Huge amounts of action, suspense and mystery.
Twist and turns that keep you on your toes.
There is adult romance throughout between both couples. These scenes are very well written.

Even though Sophia and Colin seem to take a back seat to Raphael & Cyn, it ended up working for the plot and making the story more intense. Sooo, I decided on 4.75 stars.

I don't know when I will get to read book 5, but I do know........

I LOVE THIS SERIES
&
I LOVE THIS AUTHOR.

I wholeheartedly recommend this to those who love a Great Paranormal Suspense written for Adults.

It's not erotica. It is Adult. ( )

Sophia has been called back to deal with a problem by her sire, Lucien. However, she doesn't know it means she will run into her former lover and one true love, Colin, who is now living in the Northwest.
However, most of this story deals with Raphael and Cyn from the first few books in the series. For all that Sophia is the title of the book, I never learned much about her or felt I could relate to her. Colin was better as he spent a lot of time with Cyn. Don't get me wrong, I love Cyn and Raphael, but I never felt that the book was supposed to be about them so I was confused and kept waiting for more to happen with Sophia and Colin.
It was still a good story - hello, Raphael!, but I didn't like it as much as the others in the series. Still, next up is Duncan and I'm looking forward to that book. ( )

This is one of these books which you can not judge by its cover. I don't really know who stands behind the decision to keep horrible covers for the whole series, but I would really want to strangle them.

I want to have these absolutely wonderful series in paperback standing proudly on my bookshelf, but with the covers like this? No way. Ranting aside I luuurve Vampires in America.

D.B.Reynolds managed to create one of the most delicious couples in PNR genre - Raphael and Cyn, a powerful ruthless bloodthirsty vampire lord and his tough, wicked, clever wife - private investigator and ex-cop. They have this equality and refreshing dynamics much like Roarke and Eve Dallas from In Death series by J.D.Robb.

And this couple is hot, hot, hot! Where was I? Ah, yes. I don't know why this book is called Sophia as Sophia's and Colin's love story is completely overshadowed by what's going on with Cyn and Raphael.

Although vampire Sophia and her human lover Colin were very likable characters, I didn't really care about them. Not with what was happening with human white-supremacist group, all the shootings and drama. Oh, and vampire revenge! Br-r... Graphic.

The book was read literally in one gulp. It's smooth and full of action. My only complaint? There just wasn't enough. Sophia's story is rushed, everything is resolved too quickly and way too easy. Also I didn't quite get the reason behind Sophia's Master actions. I want more, and can't wait for Duncan's story. He's too cool for school. *wink*

If you decide to read the whole series, make sure you have the book #2 next to the book #1. Believe me, you will have to grab the second book as soon as the first one ends *evil laughter* ( )

I liked it, but it took me awhile to get into the story. Once that happened though, I thought everything happened in a good reading pace, which made the plot more enjoyable. Very good book. ( )

The fourth book in the Vampires in America keeps the reader on the edge of their seat.

The beautiful and deadly Sophia has spent the last 100 years dancing her way through the balmy nights and hot-blooded men. Her Sire sends an urgent summons and Sophia returns home to find that he has disappeared, three dead vampires and letter with her name on it. A former Navy SEAL, Colin Murphy takes on the mantle of warrior once again when someone starts killing local vampires and torturing their mates. Following her Sire’s trail of death, Sophia unexpectedly spends the night in Colin’s arms, but they both soon find themselves in a race to uncover the killers, before Sophia is the next dead vampire.

This fast paced plot gets the adrenalin pumping with lots of action, suspense and romance. The author describes every scene with vivid imagery and detail that captures the imagination and makes the reader feel as if they are part of the story. The bewitching characters have strong charismatic personalities that are easily related to and leave the reader wanting to know more.

The sex scenes in the book are hot and steamy and leave the reader scorching. There is plenty of romance with Colin and Sophia which is complicated by their past adding depth and emotional turmoil, but the story is spiced up even more with Cyn and Raphael’s explosive romance as well.

The intriguing story line keeps the reader guessing with a few surprises that the reader doesn’t see coming. Once I started reading it, there was no way to put the book down until I finished the last page. I love that the original characters from the first book is still a major part of the series and how each book not only includes them but brings in more wonderful vampires and humans and give them their stories as well. So far I have loved each and every one these books and so far and I can’t wait to read the next one. ( )
