FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE SUNDAY TIMES NUMBER ONE BESTSELLER THE CALLER. When an unidentified female body is discovered laid out on a slab in an abandoned butcher's shop, the cause of death is unclear. Her body bares no marks; except for the fact that her lips have been carefully stitched shut. It is only when the full autopsy gets underway at the Los Angeles County morgue that the pathologist will reveal the true horror of the situation - a discovery so devastating that Detective Robert Hunter of the Los Angeles Homicide Special Section has to be pulled off a different case to take over the investigation But when his inquiry collides with a missing persons' case being investigated by the razor-sharp Whitney Meyers, Hunter suspects the killer might be keeping several women hostage. Soon Robert finds himself on the hunt for a murderer with a warped obsession, a stalker for whom love has become hate. Praise for Chris Carter: 'A touch of Patricia Cornwell about Chris Carter's plotting' Mail on Sunday 'Gripping . . . not for the squeamish' Heat 'A page-turner' Express… (meer)

OK, so if you are the type of person who sits around drinking single-malt scotch and thinking about the most brutal ways to kill somebody, painfully and shockingly, then you might enjoy this book. Or if you'd rather think about catching the person who does this sort of thing, you may also enjoy this.

Either way, the book gets right on with it pretty early on, and continues a few times just in case once was not enough. You might think putting a bomb inside a victim, then blowing her up during the autopsy killing a few good people would be bad enough, but that's only the beginning. This story brings new meaning to the word "stalker."

All I can say is if I ever get blown up by a bomb inside of me, I know I'd want to have Robert Hunter going after my killer. But reading about it is much more enjoyable. ( )

At the start of reading this I did think "Wow it's interesting they jumped forward 3 years..." but didn't think anything more of it. Now I realise that is because I missed book two. Genius. ( )

still a lot of action, but a lot more gruesome. and then the author kills the nice girl for no reason... ( )

What more can one truly say about Chris Carter and especially about the fictional character he has created that goes by the name Robert Hunter? There really is not that much more to say, for they are both equally brilliant at what they do for a living. Chris Carter is a brilliant writer who knows how to surprise his reader with most brilliant of twists and Robert Hunter, as fictional as he is, is a brilliant detective who knows how to connect the most sickening dots and solve the most sickening crimes committed by the most sickening of monsters from the world Chris Carter has created for all of us to read. It's not as gory as the previous one, but the murders committed are still brutal enough to turn your stomach upside down, so if you have a weak stomach I would advise against it, if you don't have a weak stomach, this is the kind of book that I would definitely recommend to you, for Chris Carter is a real deal who truly knows how to surprise with most brilliant of twists, and nobody in his fictional world is actually safe, so you don't truly know what you can expect when you end one chapter and continue to the next one, which is why he's become one of my favorite writers of this new era. Carter gets better and better with each tale of Robert Hunter, detective extraordinaire. In this story Hunter must deal with a psycho serial killer who was exposed to too much as a child and that helped create who he became. As usual there are lots of bodies, gruesome deaths and twists combined with great action that concludes in a heart-stopping finale. I love Carter's mind. ( )
