This is the second book I have read by Jenna and while I don't feel the need to seek out land and be a homesteader, her books have inspired me to grow my own veggies and be more mindful of sustainable meat processing practices. These books are easy to read and you're always rooting for Jenna to triumph in her battles with landlords, locals and farm challenges. I look forward to reading Jenna's next book. ( ) I really enjoyed this read. It was a quiet memoir on the adventures of a young woman seeking to fulfill a dream. I loved reading about her progress and how she was drawn to her home. Her writing style is friendly and non-offensive. She is surrounded by friends and family and a plethora of furry and feathered friends along the way, too. This memoir really struck a chord with me because I have a barnheart, too. I hope to see more of her adventures in the future. I actually have her previous book (Made from Scratch) on the way to my home now but look forward to future publications to tell more of her story. If you are a homesteader you might really love this book, too. Giving it 3 1/2. After having read some other online reviews, I can see the downsides....Woginrich is pretty condescending to others, makes impulsive decisions which may not be in her or others best interests, complains about not having the lifestyle she wants because she's only 20-something and keeps moving cross-country every year, etc. But overall I think the story has some redeeming factors - at least it reads like a real story and not just a series of blog posts, which is what it may be based on. Mostly, Woginrich is a fairly gifted storyteller when there's a story to tell. The second half of the book is more interesting than the first half. Man, I enjoyed this. I really like the author's narrative style, and I've read her blog off and on for years. I love how she is passionate about many things, thirsty for knowledge and willing to take risks! She makes me want to dig out my fiddle, bake some bread, and plant a lot more raised bed gardens. She can keep the sheep, though. :) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

HTML: With humor and poise, Jenna Woginrich describes her adventurous self-education in homesteading. Poignant offbeat observations on learning to farm by trial and error punctuate the story of her quest to find a permanent home for herself and her livestock: chickens, geese, sheep, ducks, rabbits, a goat, and a turkey. Alone and on a shoestring budget, Woginrich takes on cranky neighbors and small-town politics without ever losing her trademark humility or comedic style. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
