"In the fast paced life of blogging, two women stand out: Alexis Allbright, of Skinny Chick, and Shoshana Weiner, who writes Fat and Fabulous. Both have over five million loyal readers. Both are hungry for success. But the similarities stop there. With over 100 pounds on the scale separating them, weight isn't their only difference. Alexis is a loner who is so bitchy the only person who can stand her company is her gay best friend Billy. She gives neurotic New Yorkers a run for their money with her strict daily workout routine, and weighing of food. Shoshana is Alexis's opposite. Living in Jersey with rowdy roommates, she is someone who "collects friends," as her mother puts it; and treasures a life of expanding circles ... and waistlines. When both appear as panelists on a popular talk show, their lives intersect in ways neither could have imagined. In turns comedic, heartwarming--and familiar to any woman who's ever stepped on a scale--Alexis and Shoshana realize they have far more in common than either could have possibly imagined, and more importantly, something to offer"--… (meer)

I didn't think this book was well written, there were editing glaring issues that surprised me. I finished it because I wanted to see how Rockland was going to get her characters - one at 100 pounds and one at 215 poundsto meet in the middle at 150. ( )

An interesting premise. The book is about a judgmental skinny woman, Alexis, and a laid back fat woman, Shoshana, and their "journeys of self discovery" as their weights converge. The book had sympathetic, if a bit cliched, characters.

The uptight skinny chick was reeling from a family tragedy that exacerbated her troubled family's internal tensions. The fat chick grew up in a loving family, but faced internal insecurities brought on by society's cruel judgements about women's bodies.

I would have liked the book more if it wasn't full of PC cliches. There's the quirky gay friend, a seemingly obligatory figure in chick lit these days, who understands Alexis better than any straight man she's ever known. And the portrayal of fat people as yet another category in the long list of society's victims.

It was a light, fun easy read, but I think it pushed the cliches a bit too far.

Though in its favor, with its emphasis on health over weight, 150 Pounds does deliver a nice karate chop to the anti-obesity prudery one encounters nowadays from the likes of NYC Mayor Bloomberg and others.

Awful. The author obviously hates the thin character. ( )

First Thought when finished: I am so glad I picked up this book!

What a fun read! This book is for anyone that has ever dieted, worried about weight, judged people walking down the street, or thought horrid thoughts about themselves. There will be someone in this book that you identify with and go "a-ha"! Seriously, I laughed, cried, and cringed right along with the characters. In the end, I was left with hopes and giggles :)

Final Thought: I would read this book again! ( )
