Piggy Wiglet loves being a pig, but one day he decides to escape from the farm to try to catch the sun. He runs all over town until the setting sun leads him right back home. I feel that there is an underlying message to children that they should always chase thier dreams, even if it leads them home. ( ) • Harrison, David L. Piggy Wiglet & the Great Adventure. Illus. Karen S. Brooks. Honesdale, PA: Boyd Mills Press, 2007. Annotation: Piggy Wiglet escapes from his pen at the farm and heads off to chase the sun. He runs past several other animals and people who all think that Piggy should turn around and head back to the farm. In the end, he’s satisfied to return to his pen with the sun setting close by. Illustrations: The watercolor and pencil illustrations used in the book give the book a soft feel. Young children will love that Piggy always has a big, friendly smile on his face. The illustrations go very well with the text and help reinforce the text. The end pages are solid peach—the same shade as a pig’s skin. Recommended for Ages: This book would be great for children from 4 – 7 years of age because it has clear illustrations and only a few sentences per page. There is also a rhyming scheme that is prevalent throughout the text that children will love. How to Use with Children: This could be a great book to use when talking about how the sun rises and sets. Students could recreate the story by acting out scenes from the book. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
