I really enjoyed the romance in this book. It was sweet and tender against some pretty dire circumstances. I felt they connected despite immense differences in culture, upbringing, and religion. Even though I felt that connection between them, I'm glad the author didn't make it instantly all good and roses. Jesse and Shiloh differed in opinion on what it meant to be married, had differing views on how good and not so good relations were between the Indians and whites, and disagreed pretty strongly on what path the Ute's should travel on in the future to survive. Despite the differences, they are able to come together and create a pretty sweet romance.

I also really enjoyed Shiloh's character. She's independent, courageous, and not afraid to get her hands dirty when other people are in trouble. She stands up for her religion and beliefs against some pretty staggering characters and circumstances. Yet, in the end, she is still able to have a compassionate heart towards those who would have wronged her and want the best for everyone. She's also incredibly stubborn, pretty one-track minded when it comes to her religion, and uncompromising at times. It all rounds out to a woman who's real to me and who I could really connect with.

I enjoyed this Christian romance novel immensely. The author was able to balance out the Christian elements with the romantic ones to create a sweet story that actually felt like a romance. The historical details of the Meeker Massacre proved a dramatic backdrop for our couple and their story; I enjoyed those details as they taught me some stuff too. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical Christian romance novels. You'll get a kick out of this one. ( )

The cover on this book pulled me in, but it took me awhile to get into the story. The setting of the book is in beautiful Colorado in the late 1870's, and we get to travel through this area with the characters.
Jesse Blackwater and Shiloh Wainwright end up in the same Indian Village, when Shiloh tries to take a job there as a teacher. What a hard life poor Jesse has had and he really touched me....things that should never go on in a child's life, happened to him.
You can feel the sparks fly between the two, but Jesse or Nuaru has lost site of the God he accepted in his youth. I can see God's hand in putting Shiloh and Jesse back into ones lives in the Ute's Village.
We follow the Goverment plan to move these people off their land and onto a Reservation. Of course, there is resistance...I tried to think how I would feel with someone coming in and taking my land??
You will wonder how all of this is going to come out, and if they will survive to marry?? Also will both come to terms with Forgiveness?
This is a reality read, things that happened mixed in with a different type of Love story.
Enjoy!

I received this book from the Publisher Revell, and was not required to give a positive review. ( )

Kathleen Morgan is a superbly talented Christian author. I read A Heart Divided some time back, the first book in the Heart Of The Rockies series, and I knew then that I would have to read all the books in this series. Ms. Morgan takes factual historical elements and blends them with richly created, complex plot lines, tosses in sweet, lovable characters and gives her fans a book that will instantly grab your heart and keep you hanging on until the last page.

Shiloh Wainwright is a sweet and loving character! She accepts a job to be a teacher at the White River Indian Agency, but once there, things aren't what they seem and her life is about to change. But, it may not be for the better, as she's placed herself in the middle of a battle between the white and the Ute Indians. What's more is, she's face to face with a friend from her past...one who she never forgot, nor does she want to forget.

Jesse Blackwater was Shiloh's friend when he lived and worked on their ranch. But, he realized along time ago that the Whites and the Indians wouldn't get along so he left. Now, he's face to face with the beautiful young Shiloh Wainwright, his only white friend from his childhood. Can he move past the past and make a future with the beautiful young white woman? Or will the battle last forever and leave him alone and fighting for his people?

This is an amazing story of loyalty, faith, forgiveness and trust. This 5 Book worthy addition to Ms. Morgan's work is stunningly beautiful as it follows the differences and problems among two very different kinds of people. It also shows the power that believing and trusting in God has over any outcome, and that if you follow your heart and listen to the Creator, you can overcome any thing and find love along the way. I am anxiously awaiting the next installment! Great job, Ms. Morgan! ( )
