The Erin Brockovich story this isn't, but it does generate some reasonable questions about our major petroleum companies, their lobbyists, and the hold they have over the American populace. Too much Barbie/Ken here for my liking and a pretty convenient end. The bad guys are really bad.... The good guys really good. No gray here! A beautiful, hard-her-luck lawyer us fighting a big conglomerate teo bring justice to her client whose husband suffered as a result of working for years in the company without proper safety equipment and ventilation. ( ) Black Oil, Red Blood was such a great read. I was given a free ebook copy to read and review. This story was full of action, mystery and romance. Lawyer Chloe Taylor was so much fun through the the whole book, weather she was in a refinery explosion, a gun shoot out or jogging across town in a cowboy hat, cut off shorts and high heels. I loved this book and now am a fan of Diane Castle. I know if I had a wrongful death suit against "Big Oil" that virtually owns the city and politicians in my town, I would want Chloe Taylor as my lawyer. She doesn't always play fair or with in the law but neither do the oil companies. This story is an honest look into greed, mystery and murder, but does have some romance. This is about what everyone knows "Big Oil" is doing to this country and its residents. Diane Castle has written a wonderfully honest book. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
The thing about cancer is it's hard to prove somebody gave it to you on purpose-but Chloe Taylor can prove it. In fact, she proves it for a living. She sues oil refineries that would rather save a buck than comply with safety regulations designed to do important things like, you know, keep people alive. Chloe had a successful career until circumstances forced her to move to the bass-ackwards town of Kettle, Texas (human population: 4,000; gun population: 34,356). Big Oil industry giant PetroPlex employs half of Kettle's population, and there's no question the judge in the town's got oil stains on his hands. It's no wonder she's been on a losing streak lately. She suspects she's been litigating on an uneven playing field, but when her star expert witness turns up dead less than 48 hours before a make-or break hearing, she knows. What she doesn't know is the key piece of information that got her expert killed. It turns out PetroPlex is harboring a shocking secret-one that has the potential to skyrocket gasoline prices, spark an energy market meltdown, and trigger riots, chaos, death, and destruction on a global scale. Chloe must discover the secret and expose the villains before she is permanently silenced, all while juggling a troublesome ex-fianc and a tantalizing new flame along the way.
