I wanted to read the book because Bob Massie and his journey and struggle with hemophilia are the subject of the book "Journey" written by his parents which I had read in the 70s. Bob was a curious and mostly happy child and I wondered how his life had progressed. Also, he is an Episcopal priest, and being married to an Episcopal clergy person, caused me to be more intrigued.
Bob Massie has become a man who is compassionate and a man who works for justice. His memoir is well written and he shares his journey about fighting for justice in South Africa, running for Lt. Governor in MA, and creating the world's standard for corporate sustainability. And throughout he continues to deal with hemophilia, then AIDS and hepatitis and finally liver failure brought on by hepatitis.
Bob had not had an easy journey but he tells his story with tremendous grace and candor. I recommend this to you. ( )

Have to give this five start just because of my relationship to the subject matter. That is one righteous hemophiliac ! ( )

Interesting read about a man I had never heard about.....
I found his descriptions about his life and his illnesses very interesting. He lost me with his long discourses about the business parts....I was not looking for a book about business and their dealings with South Africa, but I guess that's what I should have expected from a politician and a graduate of Harvard Business! This was an inspiring autobiography by a man who has battled childhood hemophilia, AIDS, hepatitis C, and a liver transplant. But it is not just a book about a person who has surmounted dire physical odds. It is a book about a man who has dedicated his life to humanitarian and environmental causes. He is truly a warrior who educates the reader. His fight against American corporations who financially supported the South African system of apartheid and his involvement as an international elections observer were especially interesting as well as his observations on United States citizens' apathetic response to our own elections. In spite of life threatening health conditions, he worked continually to establish an international rating system which is used by
large corporations to police their environmental impact.
There were sections when I became bogged down with the details but the historical significance and personal journey of this remarkable man brought me back to the reading.
