This book would be really great in a 5th grade classroom when teaching on exploration and the discovery of America. It follows the life of Christopher Columbus from the age of a little boy all the way to him discovering America for the benefit of Spain. This would also be useful in a fourth or fifth grade classroom when teaching on the process of writing a biography about themselves for a writing activity.

This book would be a great read aloud for younger grades because it is engaging and easy to follow. It would introduce them to the ideas of exploration, but does not need to be built upon too much. It is an introductory piece that can help them understand history. This book could also be used to teach sequencing, and how it would be able to show students the beginning, middle, and end of a story.
