I think that's why I enjoyed this story so much. It was nice to see the hero and heroine still struggling with their relationship. There is no doubt that these two love each other and are made for each other, but they still have their issues to sort out. If you enjoyed the Iron Duke, then this novella is not to be missed. As much as I enjoyed [b:The Iron Duke|7864587|The Iron Duke (Iron Seas, #1)|Meljean Brook|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1312522759s/7864587.jpg|11022865] this short epilogue-ish story featuring Mina and Rhys sort of... bored me. It was nice to check in with those two and see how they've been progressing since the end of their book, but the plot concerning a rolling death machine did not hold my interest at all. Even though I didn't find this story all that thrilling, I didn't regret reading it. Scarsdale, Rhys friend, is forced to make some serious decisions here and has a little character development that made reading this worth it to me. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Brook will give him his own book. I would recommend reading this only if you've already read the first book in the series. Mina Wentworth and The Invinsible City is a novella for the first Iron Seas series that was a continuation to Detective Inspector Mina's story and her marriage with formidable Rhys "Iron Duke" Trahearn. Months after her incident and marriage with Rhys, Mina was still ever in love with the Iron Duke despite his constant worries with the dangers her career entails. Like what a married spouse to a cop would feel, Rhys is still struggling with his protective instinct while being supportive to his wife's decisions. Juggling as a duchess and wife to a famous pirate/politician while playing as the city's crime fighter, it was another sleepless night for the infamous inspector when one of her dining guest were found murdered by a giant wheel in his home. Fast paced and engaging. The novella is another adventure for the two lovers in a world were prejudices and fear were rampant in the streets. I like that its a standalone and some of the problems between the main characters never did resolved even after they're married (as opposed to normal Happily-Ever-Afters). Unlike any other novella, reading this story doesn't feel like its a short story either. I had some misgivings with the newer books in the series but the novella jump back the the first novel's dynamic. The characterizations in some of the minor character are very well developed particularly with Anne, Scarsdale and Newberry. But Scarsdale's story arc is quite unresolved in this book, the author had hinted it will be another novella and I suppose there will be more steampunkness in store for the The Iron Seas series. Its a nice addition to the first book's epilogue, those who wanted continuation of the romance would love it as much as those who wanted more murder cases in Steampunk-era London. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

Thoughts: It was wonderful to revisit the Iron Seas world and this was a fun novella in general. There's a fun little mystery and it's great to see where Mina and Rhys are at 8 months of marriage!
This novella is all wonderful steampunk mystery goodness and some steamy romance. There are unsolved murders, strange contraptions and Rhys is constantly worrying for Mina's safety; which makes him want to express his love for her in very physical ways...
The Iron Seas world remains my all time favorite steampunk fantasy world and I loved the chance to revisit it. Mina and Rhys are enjoyable characters and the side characters were well done too. There is a perfect balance of mystery, action, steampunk fun, humor and romance throughout the story. I truly enjoyed this step back into the Iron Seas world and was happy I finally made time to read this; it has me wanting to go back and re-read the whole Iron Seas series!
My Summary (4/5): Overall this was a fun read that I would recommend it to steampunk fans who don't mind some romance in their steampunk. I would recommend reading Book 1 of the Iron Seas series before reading this one to get the background on this world; the events from book 1 are referenced but not really explained. If you are a big Iron Seas series fan and missed this novella, I think it is definitely worth picking up to read. Loved this!
