Darina O'Malley watched the sun set in the bay from the great tower in O'Malley castle. She said a silent prayer for her cousin, Kyra, hoping the message that was delivered to the MacCahan's did not spell sudden doom for her and her people. If what her Uncle Ruarc had told her was true, she was to be married to a stranger in nearly a fort night, and her world would turn upside down. The realization that her clan held secrets which could destroy them forever - chilled her blood. Who was this son of a Laird that she was betrothed to and how would he react when he learned the truth?… (meer)

Please be aware that the following review is my personal opinion. This is not a paid review. To form your own opinion please support the author and acquire your own legal copy of the book.

This book is not my normal reading but I was interested in reading this book after I read the blurb.

Yes, I saw all of the negative comments about this book but I still felt like it deserved a chance. It seemed that someone needed to give this book a positive review and I felt that I could do that. No matter what all books will have, some type of grammar or spelling error no book is perfect. No Matter how many time sit is edited. Why? Because everyone is, human and humans make mistakes whether it is an author or an editor. Maybe it is me but I can and will over look most grammar/spelling errors. Why you ask? It is because that is just part of reading. To me the errors make the book more human, more real, and more lifelike.

Now for my review. I honestly loved this book. I did not want to put this book down. I was draw to the characters Darina & Patrick. This book had some amazing research completed by the author. I will admit that I do not know a lot about Irish folklore but this book had a lot in it. To me that is what made this book so interesting, so hard to put down.

The book starts out in the year 1457 at McCahan Castle with Patrick working at a blacksmith. Patrick is the eldest son of the Laird. Patrick is called away from his work for an important message. It is a message that he does not want nor does he understand.

Darina knows about the message that Patrick is going to get from his father, but it is a message that she does not want herself. She cannot understand why her father has done this to her or why she has to do this

This is more than just a love story. It is a story that will connect the reader through time. This story has well-developed characters, an amazing plot and is well written with no grammar or editing errors that I found or noticed.

I felt drawn to Patrick and Darina. I wanted to keep reading to find out what happens next. This is the first book of the Celtic Steel series. If the title for the series is, appropriate.

While reading this book I felt pulled back to the 14th century. Drawn to the amazing characters especially Darina. She is a strong female character. I cannot wait to read the second book in this series.

The bunnies and I give this book 4-Carrots. ( )

I read this book as it was the selection from my Kindle Shelf post. In the beginning, I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it or not. It seemed like a lot was going on and I was getting confused. However, I persevered and I am glad that I did. As the pieces slowly came together, I was intrigued and wanted to keep reading. It was a quick read after that.

There are a lot of things that were going on that I don’t want to give away, but were the best part of the book. I guess what I can say is that as you read, don’t get discouraged with all that is going on. The pieces of the puzzle are not as cleanly put together and so getting through the rough areas can be tough.

I did like Patrick and Darina, the main characters. Patrick holds a lot of secrets and some he did not know himself. However, Darina’s people also hold a lot of secrets as well, and as these are revealed this is when the story comes alive. The author has created some great characters besides Patrick and Darina, the two young boys grabbed my heart strings.

I loved the paranormal action going on. This is what I think the other books are hinged on. This book definitely leaves you hanging. Several things have not been resolved, in fact several avenues are left unfulfilled. I am intrigued enough to want to continue on with the series.

What to Read Next?

If you enjoyed this but want less confusion, try Julie Garwood’s The Secret. Definitely very similar in feel. ( )

AUTHOR: "CELTIC STORMS", book (1) of the Celtic Steel series. This is my SECOND TIME reading this book mostly because it had been so long between reading book one and book two. Originally read 02/18-02/19 /2012. Delaney's plot is wonderful. So many twist and turns that just when you think you know where things are headed, off the author goes flying into another direction. Never a dull moment, trust me.

GENRE: Historical romance, Fantasy romance

SETTING: Irish clans, 15th century, MacCahan Lands in Northern Ireland, O'Malley Lands in Western Ireland

CENTRAL FEMALE CHARACTERS: Darina O'Malley is the oldest of five daughters. She is skilled with a bow and arrow, can handle a sword and axe and is a great hunter and falconer. Quick witted with a sharp tongue.

CENTRAL MALE CHARACTER: Patrick MacCahan is the oldest of the Laird's sons. He stutters and has a crushed right hand. He usually ignores the woman that give him attention. He just want to work as a blacksmith.

SYNOPSIS: There has not been one male child born to the O'Malley clan in years. A curse was placed upon them and their enemies, the Burke clan, constantly cause them trouble. With the Lord (Laird) over the O'Malley clan now deceased, his oldest daughter Darina must enter into a marriage to once again provide a clan leader. This leaves Patrick MacCahan traveling to the O'Malley clan accompanied by eleven year old Braeden who had been fostered by the MacCahan .

SEXUAL EXPLICITNESS: Measured from Inspirational romance (not explicit) to Erotica (hot, steamy and sizzling). Level of romantically and passionately “tastefulness”.
(Quote from this book) “Their lips met again in a frenzy of lust and want and he slipped another finger inside her velvet softness until swollen flesh met his hand."

WHAT I LIKED: The many talents of the sisters. Darina, hunting, sword, archery and quick witted. Dervilla, clan scribe and mapmaker. Daenal with cuisine. Darcy a talented dressmaker and Dareca a weaver. Sisters along with all the clan women continue to ensure that the enterprises of the O'Malley clan are profitable.

WHAT I DID NOT LIKE: I hate hate hate the word "cock". Other than that, loved loved loved the book.

I give this book (4) stars because numerous characters names were overwhelming in this one book. I could hardly keep up with who was who. ( )
