I didn't know that it was the second book in a series but now that explains some of the problems I had with the book. The author drops the reader into an ongoing situation with very little explanation of what is going on or who the characters are. For example, in the very first paragraph, there is an unexplained abbreviation which I did eventually make a guess at: O.L.I.S. for Oxford Library Information System (?) -- at this point in the book I didn't even know what country it was set in! There were disconcerting jumps from current events to past events (apparently being revisited in the mind of one of the characters though that doesn't get explained until after the fact). The big suspenseful scene at the end of the book is so artificially contrived as to beggar belief. Ah well, at least it is no longer taking up space on my Kindle. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
