I’m surprised to know this is Boyd’s debut release. It’s beautifully written and shows signs that she has a great career as an author ahead of her.
I liked Cora’s character and to see how she has so much going against her in life, but she keeps plodding along and making the best of it. She’s a very likable character. I can see myself enjoying sequel if it meant reading more from Cora’s point of view. The other characters are also great. Her twin sister, Abi, isn’t a key part to the story, but was still a great addition. The same goes for everyone else the reader encounters. I don’t want to name too many to avoid spoiling the fun.
Aside from the characters, the plot, the romance, and conflict involved all made me want to keep reading. It’s a believable story-line that I feel most readers will be able to relate to in one way or another. I’d also like to applaud the slow and steady build up of relationships. I’m not a fan of things happening immediately, even when the length of the story is short. When things happen at a real world pace, they are more believable.
In closing, I want to read more work from Adriane Boyd. I hope more comes out soon because I have a feeling I’ll be one to enjoy it. ( )
