Find out in this cuddly Level 1 Ready-to-Read book that shows the adorable ZooBorns babies getting ready to rest. Accompanied by text that’s just right for beginning readers, these sleepytime photos are sure to interest even the most active youngsters. ( ) This informational book slightly touched on the sleeping routines of exotic zoo babies. First off, the front page included a little bit of background knowledge about the fact that the animals in the book actually live in different zoos around the world. That small bit of background information made me feel more connected to the animals. I liked how the first page also acknowledged the parent, guardian, or teacher who is reading the book with the child, by asking to help the young reader with pronouncing some of the animal names. I also liked how the font in the book was bigger than usual, which makes the book easy to read and less overwhelming. Each page included the type of animal, the specific animals name, and what they did before going to sleep. For example, "Kito is a Hamadryas baboon. At night, baboons, like Kito snuggle with hundreds of other baboons. That is a big slumber party! Nighty night, baby baboon." Reading the actual names of the zoo babies gave me an even more connection to the animals. I liked the simple detail they added to every other page, for example, the text was displayed on the pages that did not have a photograph of the zoo animal, but instead of keeping the background white, each background is a different light color and also includes a subtle silhouette of the animal. I thought this was a fun and simple way to add color to the book. Lastly, I loved how the last page, not only, gave a special thanks to the photographers but also to the zoo babies for being a part of the book. I liked how the author listed each animal and added the photographers name and the zoos name. The big idea of this book was to introduce a variety of exotic animals to young readers and make emotional connections to them. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
