Review: 3.5 stars

General: I have to admit that I chose to read My Wish based on the cover art. It is not often that the magic in paranormal romance is a genie, least of all a male genie when it does happen and I was so excited to see it happening!

The plot behind this book is perhaps one of the most interesting twists in romance literature I’ve read yet. For countless pages we are following the sexual adventures of our heroine Alana and the steamy and sensual Hari and Sami. There is no secret when these men appear after Alana experiences a mind blowing orgasm- they are there to teach her to be sexual and then leave her. A concept that had me scratching my head wondering just how it was going to work. I have nothing against threesome’s in a novel but was quite perplexed as to how the situation was going to work itself out if we are told right from the get go. The solution was perfect! And you know that means- that you need to pick this book up and read it to see just what it was and why I’m so content!

I think Sahara Kelly did an amazing job at setting up this magical world. From the hows and whys to the sex genies on a stick to the way the universe functions while Alana is locked away from the world in sexual paradise. I never once had to stop and think about the “why” or the “how”, I just read and accepted. Something that I tend to not do in the paranormal because my logical brain wants the author to know and explain absolutely everything.

So why only the 4.5 stars instead of the 5 if I am gushing? Two things- slightly weak lead characters and a plot that in all honesty doesn’t divulge itself to the reader until well over 2/3 of the way through. Worst possible and technically stupid complaint about a romance novel? Too much sex. Now I know what you’re thinking. The entire point is to help Alana grow sexual and confident. But I honestly felt like while the scenes were hot enough to leave me breathless, the entire first 2/3 of the book was sex. When the plot finally does thicken (again no spoilers) I was completely invested in it but felt it came along a little too late.

Characters: Alana- I think Alana is a wonderfully developed character. When you meet her she is a very focused and driven female- on work and only work. I got the sense she had long since removed fun from her life if it didn’t involve antiquing. As the story goes she has the most beautiful transformation. Her determination and focus make her who she is and she is a wonderful heroine.

Sami and Hari- I have to do a joined summary of these two and that is where part of my disinterest in the book came from. These are two of the sexiest men I think I have ever read! And their backstories are so beautifully tragic that I immediately wanted their happily ever after for them. But as far as their interactions in the present with Alana? I was left very empty. I never developed an emotional attachment to them as a group – which may have been the point the author wanted but it made me disinterested in them being there beyond the sex. But there was enough of their history that I still feel these two men who have made great heros in their own stories should Sahara Kelly ever wish to do prequels! ( )
