In this book, Gabby daydreams to help herself deal with the real world and the struggles around her. Her teacher reaches out to her and helps her make her daydreams into writing. This would be a good poetry book for upper elementary students. It is still a poetry book they can enjoy, but there are no pictures. This may be a good book to give to children with shorter attention spans because it tells a story but through very short poems that can keep their interest. It's a creative way to tell a story, and I liked how sometimes the author would use word size to emphasize a certain point in the book. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

Gabby daydreams to tune out her parents' arguments, but when her parents divorce and she begins a new school, daydreaming gets her into trouble. Her mother scolds her for it, her teacher keeps telling her to pay attention, and the other kids tease her...until she finds a friend who also daydreams and her teacher decides to work a daydreaming-writing session into every school day. With a notebook "thick with daydreams," Gabby grows more confident about herself and her future. This verse novel poignantly celebrates the power of writing and the inspiration a good teacher can deliver. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |

Nikki Grimes’s words are so beautiful. Words with Wings is like a small novel, with each poem being a small chapter of Gabby’s life. I have been deeply touched by the story, which has a beginning and an end. It is a truly wonderful poetry book. ( )
