As we enter the last decade of Charles Schulz's life and work, there seems to be somewhat of a resurgence in his strip. Far fewer are the throwaway strips, that seem to be tossed out carelessly for lack of better ideas. Schulz seems to be more comfortable with sometimes delving deeper into his characters' emotional and romantic lives. The ongoing love triangle between Peppermint Patty, Marcie and the ever-clueless Charlie Brown is intensifying. And, notwithstanding the hilarious foreword by Lemony Snicket extolling the depressing hopelessness and despair of the strip, Charlie Brown has finally found love, at summer camp, with a girl who loves him back! Never mind that he is probably 8 years old. It would be interesting to refer back to Schulz's biography and see if he was immersed in the bliss of new love himself at this time.
